Not much help on a gas motor, can may be valuable in a oil burner . Too much contamination of additives in gas.
The company I work for has a large fleet of heavy equipment. We sample all fluids in our heavy equipment fleet every 500 hours.
Also heavy equipment changes oil typicaly every 500 hours.
At an average of 45 MPH you would have to go 22,500 miles between oil changes in a car/defender in 500 hours.
We buy about 100 pickups a year and drive them between 150K and 200K before sale. I know of only 2 motor failures in 18 years im sure there is mor, but a very small percentage, the key is we change the oil religouly in our fleet.
On cars and trucks the manufactorers recomendations for changing fluids are well under the timeframe that a lubricant wears out.
Hope that helps
