Emissions, what a crock

so i pick up my first d90 last friday from new york city, drive it to Connecticut, and before going home, stop at an emissions center to get the certification.

the guy comes out and says, everything looks good, emissions is great, etc. so i say that's great. then he says, "yeah, but you failed."

so he goes on to tell me that the check engine bulb and service bulbs are out on the warning panel. really? so i take out my screwdriver, unscrew the warning panel, flip some bulbs around and tell him that I fixed it.

already he says? so he drives back into the bay, and 5 minutes later he comes out with my certification. pass.

i get that he's got some protocol, but just don't know why they can't say i'll pass you, but get the light fixed. ugh.

Change emission center to one you get to know well. Mine know the condition of the car and that I work on it, they pass me without blinking....

Yep bribes are definitely the way to go .. ;-)

Welcome to defender tax ... The assumption is that you can afford a defender so you can afford to pay for repairs.

Be careful as 99.9% of places will pretend to be knowledgeable, bust more than they fix then try and insert a massive dildo in your ass when the present the bill.
