I called sick this morning as I wasn't feeling well. My wife then wakes me about a hour later to tell me that I need to call my mom. The neighbors dogs attacked my moms 3 tea cup Yorkies The attack dogs are 60-80lbs. The weekend before the attack dogs got the other neighbors dog. She had to go to the vet. I don't think there was a report of this attack , but plenty of witnesses.
These people withe the attack dogs are loosing their house and are unemployed.
I know I am rambling but I want the people held responsible. What should we do?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Abe

I don't think the people are the ones that will be punished, the dogs are the ones that will be punished.

Yeah the dogs could be put down realistically, I'm not sure what would happen to the owners.

What ever happened to personal accountability? These people let their dog out of the house with out a leash. All of the time.

I'm not sure about jail but I'm sure you could sue them for negligence or something for the extent of the injuries.

There is multiple things going on here. Where did the attack happen, your property, their property or town property? Does your town have a leash law? And yes if your dogs are hurt you can go after the other dogs owner but it sounds like it may be a lost cause.

Yep.. Dogs will be euthanized (killed) and owners will be cited.. Civil suit may be you a judgement for damages to the dogs ..vet bills etc.. But a judgement doesn't mean you'll get money... Will cost attorney's fees to get the judgement.. I know it sounds cruel and it's the dogs that suffer... But let's go one step further... No one reports this and the dogs are left with the owners, and the dogs attacks escalate to attacking a small child... Or they attack another dog and an owner or your mother steps in to break it up and gets bitten or mauled in the frenzy.. If the dogs are not registered I can almost bet they don't have their rabies shots etc etc... I am the biggest dog lover in the world.. But leaving a vicious dog to go unaddressed is one of the biggest threats to dog ownership as a whole..

The people are way over weight and unemployed. They have a house on a pristine lake in central fl that we have been told is under foreclosure. A real pillar of the community. roll eyes.

And no one has asked how are the Yorkies.

I read this over breakfast and still don't know if they survived.

I ride trail, a lot. Unfortunately people cannot be bothered to read signs or follow rules. This seems doubly applicable to some dog owners. They let their pack of dogs run wild on the trail. Wildlife gets attacked and regrettably, I get attacked. Three times now over the last 12 years, scars don't show much. It is always the same story; he/she is a good dog (!), he/she has never done that before (I f'ing hope not), or my favorite "Stop hitting my dog! (which I beat quite vigorously with my pump), while my leg was bleeding profusely.

So now I ride with a Taser C2, for the dog, I like dogs (although some cooked in a curry) and a Walther TPH, for the owner. Dogs are dicks because the owner is a dick.

The police responded within an hour for two of the attacks, but the owners had fled, very responsible. One was Male, the other two female. So don't expect much help from the law, unless they where using the dogs to fight with or they where gay and wanted to get married. If you go civil, expect to pay an attorney lots of money, so he can make his boat payments. You will spend 1-2 years doing discovery, depositions, hiring (and paying) expert witnesses. Eventually, you may win a case after spending at least $150K. Then you get a judgement, whoopee. Try and collect.

Try the mafia, cheaper, quicker with better and more satisfying results.

I think the problem here is that the dogs are getting off the owners property ... if you were trying to keep people away you'd want the dogs to stay put?

Are the neighbors into guns / rock music / 4x4 vehicles / have GPS devices? Alot of druggies use guns / rock music / 4x4 vehicles / GPS devices to keep others away from their activities.

'Drugs' are going to be the new growth economy for a lot of states ... y'all better start getting ready!

An unleashed dog ran in front of me on the Rock Creek bike trail causing me to endo. I shattered my right shoulder and was laid up for weeks. I still have trouble with that joint five years on. My blood pressure spikes when I see dogs running loose.

This sounds like it could be done without an attorney it's so cut and dry. If that is allowed in Florida of course.

I've drafted up a letter filing for civil restitution, taken it to to the Clerk of Courts office and filed it. Cost is about $150.

And I'm not an attorney. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express.

Most municipalities take attacks very seriously when they are reported, since once reported they are culpable in the public's eye. Call animal control. tell them what you just said here.

One dog has died. Her name is Gia Bell. The other one has suffered severe trauma and was transported to another vet. Her name is Hanna Bell.

My condolences. I hope the Hanna Bell comes through.

I like Yorkies. Very smart and very loyal pups.

Around here, any serious dog attack requires a mandatory criminal court appearance. I would at least contact the police and/or or animal control and find out what is possible in your location.

These dogs are my moms life. She considers them her grand kids as my wife and I are not going to have kids.

The dogs owners surrendered them both to animal control to be euthanized.

My fear now is my mother health.
I was just told as I am writing this that Hanna has died.
