Question Do the wave .....! ??

Anyone who ever owned a Corvette, knows abaut the wave thing.
You see another vette.... you wave.

To get to my question... I drive my D-90 almost everyday.
I have noticed alot of Jeep owners waiving at me .
i just wanted to know abaut the " proper Rover Ettiquette" ( SP )
Or.....is it a 4x4 thing !?

I was just wondering

Once upon a time all Land Rover owners waved frantically when passing on the road and even ran fellow Rover drivers off the road to chat, since meeting another Land Rover owner was a rare occaision. Once LR started marketing upscale and you can get one at every luxury car dealer, that trend has really decreased. I think most new RR & DIII owners probably are afraid you're going to mug them if they wave back. In my experience, I got the most waves driving the Series, then the Defender, then the Disco, then the RR.

Porsche owners used to blip the brights when passing, too, but I'd be afraid of blowing a fuse in a Land Rover ....

Defender owners around here in NY all seem to wave, Luxo-Rover owners just stare.

Actually, that's the one thing that really surprised me about the Defender.... is how many people stare and point at the truck as I drive. I watched one person oogling the truck so badly, they drove kinda forgot to watch the turn they were making and almost hit a tree.

jeepers wave at me too, if they are cute I wave back of the few rovers I see only a few wave, all the 4x4ers wave and I wave back, and most little kids want me to honk the horn or drive over something, and then there are the Rover owners in their daily drivers (nonrover) that wave I wave back.

Now to really make the little kids happy Mike you should replace the train whistle with a ships horn.

I noticed the same thing and used to mutter under my breath, "it's not a jeep". Then one day a buddy of mine with a 60 series cruiser said, "Dude, they wave at the 60 all the time too, it's 'cause they want one."

I wave at just about any rover on the road that I pass that looks like it might have even seen dirt. I get disco owners that wave back, and RRC, but that's about it. I think I may have passed 5 total Defenders in mine and I always half hang out of the truck when I see them. You just never see them where I work (Harrisonburg, VA) so it makes my day when I get to wave. The day(s) if MAR are nice though because as all you guys are coming south I'm headed to work and pass you on 81. This year I'm pretty sure I'm taking off work though, so I'll be in the festivities even more.

Thats too funny, I have also noticed these " High end LR'S" pass me, while on there cell and not even give me a second look, I really believe that they have no clue as of what they just passed !!
The other proplem is, that there are so many Jeep owners around here, my arm is going to fall of, if I wave back too them all....sigh
Oh well, the up's and down's of " ROVER" ownership I guess

If I see a cool off road truck, i always wave -- Rover or non-Rover. I ran down a Sammy one time 'cause his truck was so cool I had to talk to him. He was new in town and I got him out to the big Cal Off Road Assn event near the Salton Sea. Modified Sammies are like little spiders on the trails, they seem to be able to cling to walls.

In portugal land rover owners wave too, or give flash lights, but police doesnīt like that and are givin us "tickets" (donīt know exact word)... so now we put arms out of window (if we ave time to do that) or just wave with the head lolol...

I think Jim Carey said it best in an elevator scene in one of his movies. Cost him a black eye though. Funny how you can't get a black eye on the internet.

It's a 4x4 thing. If they look like they wheel it, they get a wave. If they wave, I respond. As Mike pointed out, if they are cute and look your way, they get a wave too (no matter what they drive :D ) .

Its not just the fact that some of these corporate people don't notice that our D90's are Land Rovers but some of the kids that don't know what they drive. I was in Daytona last year for Spring Break and was driving on the beach (which is actually the strip in daytona) and passed a guy in a nice disco. He didn't have much done with it but still a very nice ride for someone who looked to be 16 or so. Here I am 20 years old and a little bit more mature than my 16 year-old days. I wave and say nice ride man. He starts looking at my vehicle with this most confused look I have ever seen. I have been around a lot of "daddy's Boys" who have land rovers that when they see mine they still say nice jeep becuase they don't know anything about them. Those are the ones that don't wave or acknowledge that you are in a Land Rover as well. I give the wave to anyone with a Land Rover; all the way from the soccer moms to the hardcore off-roaders all the way up to the corporate guys.......I even get waves from jeeps and happily reply to them as well.

Maybe I'm just evil. But my favorite "game" to play lately has been to wait until someone walks next to the truck (say at the supermarket), and start it up right as they walk by the tail pipe....

I also combine this with flooring it from a stop light when someone either gets too close or cuts me off to get to the lane next to me. Although it's getting harder now that I use a little biodiesel. Not as much soot.
