I know that would be a big project to study all that data and analyze it like you suggest Robert. And I agree, in the end, it doesn't make much difference because everyone loves (or love/hates) their Land Rover(s) and that's what matters.
Don't apologize. not necessary.

Why do millennials live in fear of "offending" somebody somewhere in the slightest. Was it too much Barney and Captain Planet as a child? What is it like going through life having to put these stupid labels on everyone for diversity sake.

Chip I would suggest you actually go to an event near you to see actual Rover people actually wheeling their trucks. And don't worry what their skin color/ethnicity/political/socioeconomic/sexual/dietary/beer preferences are because no one else really gives a shit.

P.S. Sorry if the word "shit" offended you.

So what did we conclude on ROW, CKD and Home Market imports to the US? I think I skimmed over and missed the post answering.

FWIW, I believe the only reason people drive Defender-type trucks is because we are nuts about them, and that can span any demographic you can think of. There really isnt any logic to it.

I bought one because Ive always wanted one, no matter how crazy it was to choose it over something more reliable. I was a young soldier in the Army, with a cherry Toyota Tundra. I saw Big Red at a little dealership on the side of the road, and pulled over to trade for it, straight up. It was monumentally stupid, and my dad slapped me across the back of the head for it. But I didnt care. I couldnt afford to drive it daily and maintain it, but I didnt care. The only reason I could afford it was because it was a ROW. NAS trucks are too expensive. If it werent for the influx of ROW trucks, I wouldnt even be a member of this community. Id be forced to have a Jeep as a toy instead. Hell, I STILL cant afford my 110, but that doesnt matter to me because Im still a little bit nuts.

I am eternally grateful to this community though, as some of you know. You guys are some of the best people Ive ever met. I wouldnt trade my stupid decisions for the world.

I was just thinking this. Go to some events or GTG's and you'll associate people by what rigs they are driving not what they look like. Ex: I think Red NAS on Wolfs when I see Galpin post although a funny ascent pops into my head too, haha.

I have to say that many of the NAS owners in my area are typical white male in that 30-50 year old range. But ask most of them if their '94 still has an LT77 and you'll get a puzzled look and they change the topic to golf. I'd much rather talk and hang with someone that knows their truck and/or wants to learn no matter what skin/sex/religion they are.

Celebrities are normal people too, and enjoy interesting cars. Seinfeld owns a D90, bought it new when he was living in LA.

Jimmy Fallon - The Unsinkable Legend: Part 1 - Episode - Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee by Jerry Seinfeld

To quote Hammond, "It is totally and utterly classless. It tells the world nothing about your wallet, your aspirations, your success, or your abilities in the bedroom. In a land Rover, you can work the land, or you can own the land."

I mean look at me... I used to be a poor, punk-rock, skateboarder, hooligan teen that almost didn't make it out of high school; and I owned a Series III 5-door safari. Now I'm a middle-class, middle-aged, educated, land owning, atheist, socialist revolutionary with a Series IIa and a ROW 110. Some things never change.

Yeah, like the people that randomly show up at your house and want to talk about your truck right after you were stung by a bee.

Chip, you're definitely welcome to come out to the NOVA Happy Hour any time you're in the DC area. Heck, even if it's not time for Happy Hour, we'd probably hang out with you at a bar or parking lot to talk Rovers.

There's a bunch of people here who you could shoot the breeze with and it will transform your understanding of what Defender owners are like. The reality is that there a lot of good people here and if you want diversity, you'll get it - and it has very little to do with race/ethnicity.

I remember when I first came on this board 6 years ago looking for information on buying a truck. I have formed some great friendships with people on here since, and the local NOVA folks are just some of the most exceptional people I have ever met regardless of context. Don't forget all the awesome Rover folks who don't even own Defenders, or Rovers at all for that matter who are on this board.

This thread is kinda weird but I work for a data company so I guess I should chime in.

First, I'm a millennial and while I'm polite and respectful when given the choice, I don't give a shit about offending anyone when it's deserved. So while every republican isn't a gun toting, incestuous, back water, uneducated, white supremacist.. not every millennial is a tree hugging, bernie loving, free love, socialist, lets all get along, pussy. In other words- don't group all millennials together please.

As for the Land Rover stats I don't have an NDA with the internet so I can't post the exact numbers but generally speaking my interpretation of the data shows that Land Rover owners are affluent suburban middle aged home owners. There is a break in the data trend which is common with makes that have a cult classic model. That group is slightly older, more rural, incomes under 100K, low presence of children, and overwhelmingly own their home. Politically speaking- it's pretty down the middle which is what you'd expect. There is no data that suggests you can say Defender owners are more republican or democrat. There is data you can cite to claim that of the more conservative leaning owners, more of them are active on the board than democratic leaning owners but that's not indicative of the entire group, that's just a trend on this forum. Lastly, the group skews white and generally still has low religious affiliation
