Dendy's 110 Disaster Averted-Higher Power!!

OK, Guys:

Few weeks back we went camping and during that trip the E-brake started to shutter because the pads had worn to metal on metal and the shoes were expanding. I dropped the drive shaft and removed the shoes to make the rest of the trip. The new shoes came last week, but I hadn't gotten around to installing them yet. We live up a 200 yard up hill drive way. I came home today, pulled in behind Hollys 93 LWB and ran in to do payroll for my employees. Pretty sure I put the truck in gear, but it must not have been seated all the way.

45 minutes later, I came out to get in the truck, and she sat 75 yards down the driveway straddled over our rock wall. She rolled all on her own down the hill. Had she been 5 feet in front of where she hit the wall, it is pretty assured that she would have flipped. Had she not hit the wall, but kept down the driveway, I would have probably taken out a neighbors home!

Upon investigation, the rear diff snagged and bulldozed about 15 feet of the rock wall. The only damage was to the wall, and the rear diff cover. Pulled the rear diff cover off and all the gears were A-OK. Sourced a used diff cover locally at Tennessee Offroad for 15 bucks, so tomorrow it'll go back on.

When you consider that there was basically no damage to speak of to the truck, it didn't run over one of my children or anyone else, no homes were damage, I'd say I was pretty blessed today. All I could do was be thankful.

Many thanks to Scott Preston (roverx) and Kelly Graham!!! Scott came over and assessed the damage. Kelly came over and spotted me. I drove her right up and off that wall. No Additional damage!! Thanks Kelly!!

You just have to see the pictures!

Dale Knepp joked that you just can't keep a rover on the pavement!

Who'da thought I would bust my rear diff in my own drive way!!

People would mock me when I used the winch cable on my series to tie it off to a tree. Glad you and the truck are ok

I did the same thing about 6 months ago - parked the D90 in my garage and left it running and out of gear while I ran back inside to grab something. I found it across the street in my neighbors yard!

What size BFGs are you running...nice you have your own rock garden to wheel in BTW. Ask Kelly G about he and I trying to fix my punctured rear diff with a stick welder.

LOL. Reminds me of the Gods must be crazy movies. Watched both one and two again this weekend and was literally crying during the scenes where he needs to open and close the gates but the anti christ's handbrake is out.

This is something I'm not sure I'd admit to in public. Just like I'd never admit to putting a dent in my rear quarter on an easy obstacle at Uwharrie because I forgot to lock my center diff.
