Defenders and the silly names

Can someone explain to me why people give Defender projects weird names like the Outlaw, The Blizzard or The Whatever. Is it an attempt to create their own special edition like LR does with the Heritage? or an effort to tell someone that this isnt a Defender but something different/better/unique? I dont know.

I think that naming your Defender is a product of the belief that each one is unique and individual, much like the people who own them/drive them. They take on a personality of their own. In my opinion, that is what is so wonderful and addictive about them. This is in part due to the many variables in options and "themes" you can throw at a Defender, so in my opinion it makes sense to try and create a title or name for it. Now, if they are "silly" names . . . then that is probably because people are trying too hard, or looking for some marketing help. Like naming a hair salon with some play-on-words.

People like it I guess. Whenever I see them doing that I just think of

The Dildozer

I like more normal names like Howard or the Hermanator, etc.

I don't think many people do that.

You might be referring to a few people, however.

It appears to be done by a very, very, very, small minority of people who usually build a truck with the intent to sell. One just happened to post recently. I have no idea what they're trying to accomplish by the name.

Most of the named trucks are builder trucks, I think. So simple marketing.

We name ours by color. Red, Green, White, and now Dark Green.

I am tempted to one-up with a Big Bag of Baby Dicks edition.

Even stranger when they steal a name from another transportation device, like a discontinued Japanese motorcycle.

My friend called his Series truck Bucephalus. I always thought that was a pretty badass name.

Mine is called der Wolperdinger.

Thinking to rename them all:
130-Defender McDefenderson
110 Util-BBoBD's
110 CSW-Keswick, Lord of Thunder
110 PU-Destroyer of Worlds
LR4-Luxe-o-Rama

When the girls were little, I had a Ford crew cab long box. I said once it was a big old boat, so for the next few years they called it "Boatie".

It's a Bavarian thing. They send their children out into the forests at late at night looking for Wolperdingers, much like the "Snipe hunts" we used to have as Boy Scouts.
