Lightbulb Defender Source Sponsors

As I mentioned before, the plan is to attract some endemic Sponsors (ie. Land Rover/Defender Related) to our site. The vision is to create a win-win relationship where everyone in the Defender community can enjoy the benefits of this program. For example, sponsors will be allowed to run special contests like the one I just announced where Rovers North is giving away a $500 gift certificate.

We also plan to offer our sponsors some button and banner ads as well as various other perks. One of the biggest concerns was that ads would not be "on topic" and thus don't provide value to overall user experience. That being said, we hope the membership will embrace this endemic sponsorship program because it will be specifically focused towards Land Rover Defender owners.

In keeping my promise about ads to the members who were were grandfathered in before the change in management, well be adding a feature where you can turn off the sponsor ads but keep in mind that once they are turned off they cannot be turned back on and you will not be eligible to win any prizes in future contests (the current Rovers North contest excluded). Some ads will also contain discount codes and other incentives, you won't want to miss them. My hope is that we can create enough value in the sponsor program that the members who have been grandfathered into 'no ads' will consider leaving the sponsor ads enabled.

I'll post more on this as we get things configured and go live with our first vendor button ads. In the meantime if you have any questions, I'll be glad to answer them here.

Will the prior opting out of ads work to block these or will I have to do it again?

Sponsor ads and banner ads are two different things.

Josh is correct. The reason for the additional opt-out is because the sponsor opt-out will also be used to remove the ability to post in the contests. I'm just trying to find the right balance for the sponsors and grandfathered members. Trying to offer some incentive to stay opted-in to relevant offers.
