'97 D90 Spotted w/Galvanized Frame in Maplewood, NJ

Spotted a fellow Maplewood, New Jerseyan with a Green '97 D90 SW with roof rack. Heritage tag #0051. Maplewood, NJ is a small town and the windows were down so I decided to wait a bit to talk to the owner and it turned out to be a woman with a German/Eastern European accent. She said it's her sons car but he's away at college (I would have taken it with me, total chic magnet). She was pretty knowledgeable about the history of the car. It also had a new galvanized frame and since I am considering a frame swap as well I asked her where she got it done and she said here: http://www.independentmotorworks.com/ from a guy named Brian. This place works on Ferrari's and Maserati's. What blew me away was she said it cost $19k! Is that a normal price for a galvanized frame swap? I see the frames online for about $3300... Anyways, it was really clean and in very good shape.

I keep seeing a white SW around the main line, but I have not got close enough to read the plate or to see if it is a 95 or a 97.

Seems about double what I have seen others pay for just a frame swap. Book time on the frame is between 30-40 hours and I have seen two people do it in a day.

I used to pass that Independent Motorworks all the time - never would have guessed they would do a frame swap on a Land Rover. Rolf on the board here has a used car dealership with Defenders in Summit, so you may want to reach out to him and see who he uses.

SafariHP used to have a Restoration section on their site with a similar quote for frame swap in the teens - may have been low teens, though. You'll tend to see that much more is done during just a frame swap, and while it's off many more parts are replaced in the process. Posr frame pics of your truck in your other thread - I can't see the rot being so bad that it needs a galv chassis immediately.

Saw a black 110 SW parked on the shoulder of 95 north bound at the BWI exit on Saturday afternoon just before 5. It had suffered a break down of some form and a couple of guys were working on it under the hood. Looked like a fairy new truck.

Of all places (I work in the South Bronx) I spotted a white ST driving on Sherman Avenue and then turn towards Yankee Stadium. I tried to get my phone out to snap a pic, but I know how quickly iPhones magically disappear around these parts so no pic.

So, white ST. ARB (type) brush guard w/ 2 Hella 4000's, Southdown (Yellow) steering guard protection and NY tags (new plates). It appeared to move smoothly through the intersection so I'm guessing a '97 auto (Couldn't catch the rear tail lights or front turn signals for a solid ID on the year). Anyone?

Pretty cool! Puma hood (so I assume it's a Puma), maybe a camper top as well as a RTT?

Nevermind - I think that's just cargo on the rack, not a tent.

Well, it isn't a "factory" doormobile....but yes, same concept would be my guess. With some type of bedding in the popup

Just spotted this sticking above the crowd on my way home from work. Checked their website when I got home and discovered the expensive truth!

There are plenty of "more money than brains" that will gladly part with their money and pimp that ride. Even if the vin number photographed is to a 2 door pickup built in 83/84?? Even though its listed as 1986.
