There is a transient population of Defenders here in Burbank at the studios. Drive down Olive during the day and you are likely to see at least three or four 90's and a 110. There are also a handful of folks who live in town that own 90's. I have to say that when I was stationed in west LA it seemed like it was a requirement to own a 90 or 110 in order to live there. When I was assigned to the rescue my partner and I would go on rover hunts just to see how many we could spot.

I actually ended up buying a 90 that I spotted when tillering the hook and ladder truck. The tiller seat sits up pretty high and allows you to see over fences and walls into yards and that are hidden at street level. One day we were driving past a tow yard in East LA and i spotted a green 90ST covered in dust. We stopped and I talked with the tow yard owner who said I could have it in 2 months if the owner fails to pay his tickets and tow yard fees. In two months I came back and bought it from the tow yard owner for $11k drove it for about 8 months and sold it for $21k. It helped me raise the money for the 130 I have today.

Not a requirement, but it sure helps.

Yep, I am assuming it was a once in a lifetime find but I still have my eyes peeled even though I'm not riding quite as high in the truck these days. I am assigned out in the San Fenando Valley now and have seen some pretty cool series trucks tucked back in some driveways but nothing like the 90 find.

How is your POE truck holding up? More importantly how are you and Molly doing?

If Jay Leno can find a 1927 Duesenberg 5 miles from him i bet there is another rover barn find in your future...

Oh the POE's holding it's own. Got out to Death Valley in November and planning a trip back for March. Molly and I are great. We were married in May.

Defender Sightings

See an unfamiliar Defender while you were out cruising around? Give a yell here in this thread.

Hum

I just saw a red d-90 towing a yellow d-90 on 95 doing about 100mph...with a shitload of parts straped to the hood.
Or was it a yellow one towing a red one? I'm not sure who that could have been.

Spotted in Seattle #100 of 300 97 LE. I actually followed the guy for awhile hoping I could talk to him when he stopped. He's not looking to sell.

Briefly saw a swell green LHD 110 while exiting a parking garage in downtown Greensboro, NC, Saturday night. I was so surprised, I had to stop and stare for a few seconds.

Saw this one this morning on my way to work through Tribeca half way between Mr. England's apt and mine. It has California plates, and is BRG. Anyone from here?

I saw a Yellow ST on Ave A between 8th & 9th on Saturday ... a 110 NAS on outside Barnies warehouse recently and a white ST in SOHO a couple of weeks ago.

I normally joke that you'll see more Lambos than Landies ... but looks like Defenders are pretty common in Manhattan!

Not really a sighting but I stopped over Jorge's place for a nice cold beer the other day. Then we did some 4 wheel drive burnouts and picked up lots of girls and had them sit like troops in the back.

Pic of a nice 110 at the port of Miami....

My brother was getting on a cruise, took the pic and sent it to me.

Maybe someone here owns it.
