were you trailering the 109 at the time? I'd have expected a little faster.

That is great! How the hell did you get that RT in a 110?!! Start lifting the clutch when the ambers start? Haha I'd like to see what a V8 ST 90 could do - maybe pull the front shaft and lock the LT230? Could brake that 60mph trap.

So it's a hole shot contest? How'd a 120 mph pass lose to a 58 mph pass?

The race is won by who gets closest to the time scribbled on their windshield (without going under).

So here's how it works...
This is bracket racing so the slower vehicle (i.e me) gets a head start.
After some practice runs, you get to choose your own dial in time. I went with 18.85 seconds. The other guy in the final chose 11.80 seconds so I got a 7.05 second head start.
Normally, if you go under your dial-in time (and the other guy doesn't) then you loose. Otherwise, the first to cross the finish line wins.

The 110 is a little inconsistent. In practice it was doing anything from 18.75 to 18.95 at a finishing speed of about 69mph. In the final, I was way ahead as we both approached the finish line so I hit the brakes hard to make sure that I didn't go under 18.85. Hence the only 58mph finish. The mustang came flying past me at 120mph but not until just after I'd crossed the finish line.

My launch technique is to creep up to the line at idle and then, while holding the clutch just below the point of engagement, I rev the engine up to about 4000rpm and gently hold on to the hand brake. As soon as I see the third orange light, I try to floor the throttle, drop the clutch and release the hand brake at the same time. The 110 jumps off the line with just a little wheel spin and then settles down to a relatively sedate rate of acceleration. In this case, I managed to leave the start beam 0.052 seconds after the light went green. (That's 0.5 seconds after the third orange.) I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't have a spare transmission sitting in my storage locker.

Still very pleased with myself.

And the LT77 survived?

I replaced the transmission a few years ago and the old one was already an R380 so that wasn't original. It'll be inconvenient but not surprising if I have to get the 109 out to trailer the 110 home one day.

Awesome!

Is there a category for how many people you can fit in one vehicle while racing as well? You may be able to win that one as well...

Did you check to make sure that the reason you were so much faster during the last run wasn't because of parts falling off of your truck?

Maybe that... Or maybe I was spraying out so much coolant through the heater valve that I lost a few pounds that way.

The Title of this thread is what brought me here. I have to admit this is one of the funniest reads I've gone through in a while. And you need the picture to make it believable....I am still smiling!

It wasn't the parts falling off it was the half a tank of gas he burned off on the first 2 runs.
