If you had your truck stolen, vin swapped and sold in the UK .... you'd be pissed. There are victims here and some people will view this as criminal's getting their dues.

I would imagine this is just the messaging that illegal imports wont be tolerated, more realistically future confiscated vehicles would be auctioned off for export only raising revenue to partially offset the costs of the clampdown.

They did the same for the skylines ...

Not as pissed as if my 110 was stolen, vin swapped, taken to Europe, recovered by authorities, and then crushed instead of returned!

The Skyline thing was FAR more complicated than just a couple of VIN swaps. The Skyline was actually federalized.

Crushing a truck sends a message. Thats fine. My question is did they go after the person who intentionally imported a swapped truck?

The irony is that most US Defender enthusiast were too paranoid about providing their contact information to the government (on the petition) that they didn't sign it.

I signed it.

It needs to change.

Agreed that would suck. But to be honest in the UK if my truck had been stolen, the insurance would have paid out and they'd own it. The second hand market for VIN swapped trucks is surprisingly small and as such it was probably less expensive to have the Feds crush it rather than return it to the UK and dispose of it there.

The 'owner' of this truck was either an importer who was attempting to break the law or a buyer who was either ignorant of the law ( no excuse there ) or willing to take a gamble.

Frankly I couldn't care less about this vehicle being crushed. Sure a few parts were lost but those parts are of questionable origin and I wouldn't like to buy parts that existed because of a theft in the UK.

Organize another petition. Take action. Push for a change in the law. That's your right. It's a democracy. Go for it!

Youtube video of the destruction along with commentary by a CBP Officer at the end. They were very thorough in destroying the vehicle. Quote from the Officer at the end at the end of the video, "It maybe worth $30 as scrap metal".

Wish the person who imported that would come forward and tell the story. Maybe we need a FOI request.

Smug little twerp at the end. I get it, it was illegally imported, but I don't get the BS about how they are somehow saving everyone from this unsafe vehicle. I mean come on, if it were in fact a 25 year old Defender that was legal to import, and drive, they'd have had to let it in. So tell me how it being a much newer vehicle makes it so unsafe in comparison to allow on the roads?!?

Oh yeah, and the 'poor guy who 'thought' he was buying a 25 yer old Defender, and got a much newer one', boy, I bet that guy is glad the BCP guys saved him from that fraud! LOL!

P.S. -- Tough to watch, but it looked like the chassis/suspension was holding pretty strong through the abuse..

It's not like this came out of left field. I mean we had PLENTY of heads-up time.
Uncle Doug and others warned.
Bummer to see it crushed, but the times are different than they were 2,3,5 years ago.
Yes indeed Doug, 'the gig is up'

If that truck is a board member or a freind of a freind, allow me to express my condolences.

------ Follow up post added August 15th, 2013 08:08 PM ------

BTW, "B" plate?
Were we to believe that this was a 1985?

What is amazing to me is that the way they just destroyed that defender is completely against the EPA's end of life vehicle disposal laws, which at a very minimum require you to remove the coolant/water from the vehicle along with the all of the oils and refrigerant. That was the first point, the second thing that amazes me is that they went out of their way to to crush this vehicle when they could have easily broke it down for parts and gave it to the military for use in their defender fleet. And lastly this country will allow hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants to stay here, yet when a few farm trucks come from england they make it a point to crush the damn things and post an ignorant video of it. This also besides the fact that that Sennebogen with a grapple is not how you crush a vehicle, you remove the wheels tires, all the oil, coolant, motors and many other things, and put it in either a car crusher or a bailer, not smash it with a grapple.
