Defender 90s coming into US from Canada?

Looking for an NAS 1997 D 90 with mileage under 70,000. Have found 2 of these, different sellers, each with mileage under 50,000. One seller in the Rockies and one in Florida. First Carfax entry for each was registration with the Quebec Motor Vehicles Dept.in the last 2 years. Carfax shows each with no vehicle service history prior to current owner who titled vehicle in the US within a year of when the Canadian registration was issued . How do I determine if these are NAS vehicles or not? harrythetall

Sounds like Japan imports. Probably best to steer clear of those, unless you can verify their legality. Search on the forum here about that info. According to LR FAQ, only one 97 NAS D90 was originally sold in Canada.

never trust any vehicle that touched Quebec soil. Notoriously corrupt place to do business.

The info I and others posted in this thread should be about all you'll need.

Thanks to rijosho, Chip, Red 90 and 50thd90; all your comments were helpful. Did not know about the LR FAQ and it is a big help. Respectively the last 6 digits of the VINs are ... 127483 and 129695 and there is another one on the west coast with the same issue. In all cases the VINs are higher than the last highest number in the range for 1997 NAS D90s listed in LRFAQ which stops at 124277. It's a real shame because the first 2 have very low mileage and appear to be in great shape subject to checking the floor pans, bulkheads and undercarriage for rust. So the search continues.

Low mileage is impossible to validate on jap spec trucks ... Added to the fact a jap spec speedo is in KM/h so if they now read miles they've been swapped.

We need to the whole VIN. The last six digits have no meaning.

initial registration info on Carfax shows both the kilometers and the miles. Speedometer now reads in miles and it is very close to what was shown in the initial registration report which was a year ago. The VIN is SALDV3241VA127483. The US Gov notice that is shown on ECRs Website section dealing with imports lists VINS beginning with :SALDV 324...... and manufactured prior to Sep. 1, 1997 as being legal to import. The buyer represents that he has all documents concerning the importation. Any other thoughts? Thanks.

I have a 1997 with 33k miles coming up for sale soon... What colour do you want it... I have it completely apart to repair some sections of rust... At the moment I'm thinking of painting it the heritage 2 tone colour scheme...

The Rover Shop. Your reply sounds interesting. Can we move this conversation to email. Mine is harryw@triad.rr.com. As to color, I'd say you go with the heritage paint colours. Very interested in the VIN # and a photo of the manufacturer's badge. Assuming it is NAS, I would like to know more. Thanks.

Well the tub cappings were
Starting to rust and leave stains, so I decided to just remove the tops and the doors.. Truck has been in Florida for a long time but was on Marco island and not driven much..it was more about ocean air than anything else.. And it was easier to do a correct colour change with it all apart...so technically not all apart but all panels off...
