I bought my JDM spec 90 from Steve in Quebec. He has the market cornered for importing JDM Defenders into Canada. There is nothing wrong with importing one into the USA as long as it has a VIN:SALDV 324 and was produced prior to Sep. 1, 1997. If you run a Carproof you will see the kilometers when it was imported to Canada, if it is imported to the USA then the speedo must be changed to Miles. Its very easy to do the conversion from KPH to MPH so you can tell if it has the proper mileage.

I have seen a second low mileage JDM spec 90 in my hometown that was imported from Japan and both that one and mine are very very clean!!!! No rust, low miles, I would buy a JDM spec 90 again. Thats my 2 cents.

Good luck with the search!!!!

Ryan, the timing on your message was serendipitous. I am vacillating on a deal for a low mileage JDM spec D 90. The VIN and date it left the factory are consistent with US regs for importing. The documentation from the registered importer is thorough and the firm is on the list of approved registered importers.Your comments are very helpful.

If you are willing to pay for a rebuilt NAS, you could probably find an easy to import 1989 or 1990 from Canada, and have it built exactly how you want once you get it here. As far as importing goes, getting the straight 25 year old vehicle is easy to do from Canada.

Thanks RB. My cup overflows with options. I think it is time for me to fish or cut bait on this decision.
