Defender 90 Cash For Clunkers Trade In :(

So a guy dropped his TJ off at my shop last night and he works at the Volvo dealership in Richmond, VA. He said they got a D-90 traded in for the cash for clunkers program! They also got a few RRs, and RRCs, a tons of Grand Cherokees and Cherokees as well. He personally dumped silicon in the engines and gas tanks of all of the them.

When he gets back to work on Monday he is going to pull the VIN number and the serial number plate for me if it's still there.

Just to make it worse it'll probably be an Arles Blue, too! Defender cash for clunkered makes absoltuely no financial sense at all. Sounds like a good Tdi project!

That sounds a bit suspect... Not many people would believe that a D90 would be worth less than $4500.

My '99 D1 was posted for sale here a month ago, but decided to traded it in for the cash for clunkers program . I got a '10 camry 6 speed for my daily driver.

I will never trade or sell my '94 D90

Believe me, I am suspect as well, that's why I asked for the VIN and serial number. I know the guy and he is not the type to make something like that up.

There are a lot of ignorant people out there. Maybe the D90 was high mileage and rusty and the owner didn't know what he had.

I'll report back what the guy sends me.

So the guy pulled the VIN: SALDV2282RA945584 which makes it the "rare" '94 that got serial number 1846, which was also issued to a second D90 in Alpine white. The one that was traded in was Beluga black - the guy said the truck is a very faded and oxidized gray now (?).

The government has not paid on many of the Clunkers, so maybe someone could rescue it.

No, it goes to a salvage yard first, parts can be sold for 6 months then, what ever is left gets crushed. They do have to disable the engine, because it is evil.

Talked to the guy about getting some parts off it, that's a no-go. They'd lose their clunkers $$.

The VIN shows up on LR FAQ, wonder why it's invalid?

Why don't you just give the dealer $4500 for it then the "clunker" money does not matter? got yourself a d90 for $4500. I must be missing something here?

This is just the start of central planning. Thanks leftists.

Steal it out of the yard. Part it and make money.

They DONT have to crush it. They just can not send in the truck and resell it as any other trade in. Call them back asap.

He claims they already put silicon in the motor...

I'll talk to him this morning when he pics up his TJ. I am skeptical of the entire story, so I'll interrogate him some more this morning.
