Defender 130 in Spain

So I bought an ex-MoD 2007 LHD 300tdi 130 in Gibraltar. Little ratty from being used around the airfield, but no rust and only 6000 miles (lots of trips around the airfield).

More pix when I get to the hotel.

Some more pix, not too exciting. I'm actually going to stick the truck in long-term parking at the airport for three weeks until I've got time to drive it back to Germany.

This part of Spain feels like California. Mid-March and it's in the 70's, Palm trees everywhere. Brown grass on the hills.

Now with added dramatic lighting.

It looks like the truck was desert tan at one point, as evidenced by a lot of overspray. The color of the dust clogging the air filter doesn't look like Gibraltar dust to me and it makes me wonder if this D did a tour in a combat zone. Seems odd it would come back to Gibraltar after a war zone, but I like the story even if it isn't true. It would be great to have a veteran truck even if all it did was laps of Kandahar.

Bonus sighting of Estonian plated D110.

I'm sure Gibraltar gets a lot of dust blowing in from the Sahara.
After all, if the stuff can blow from Africa across the Atlantic to North American continent during certain times of the year, it can blow in from Morocco

Jim, that is a sweet LHD 130 with 300TDI and AC.
Should be fun and comfortable to drive around Europe.

Nice, congrats Jim! I believe I saw this truck on eBay UK not that long ago (I recognize the front bumper and single hoop for the canvas)...glad to see you snagged it!

The guy has another one that's only 4-5 VIN numbers away if someone wants it. I got the better of the two, but 300tdi and no rust makes for a great parts donor...

I saw the post and thought What? No way! No 130's here! Then I saw Gibraltar. ;-) ah that explains it.
Nice truck anyway.

Why isn't the heater matrix connected to the engine? Think those two pipes need to go somewhere.
Could this be why owners of Tdi's always complain about being cold?

I kept a couple hundred Euros off the price when I found the busted heater core pipe. He was pretty on the level about the truck, but there's no way I was going to overlook a complete hassle of a job and not keep enough money to cover the repair.

I'm here at least through 2016 and possibly out to 2019, so I'll get some use out of it over here. I've wanted one of these late 2006-2007 Tdi trucks for a long time and this one was in good enough shape to justify the cost if only used for parts. My plan right now is to disassemble it and use the parts to restore something older once I'm CONUS again.

I do need to find a NTO bed though, this one isn't as nice as I'd prefer.
