Dealer verification

Does any one know anything about Classic Defenders out of the Netherlands? I have been trying to arrange a vehicle inspection but haven't heard back yet. They said that they sent a 1984 Camel Trophy 110 to the US last year. I just need a little bit more reassurance before I send funds.

Thanks
Jeff

Not telling unless I find a favorable review. Kinda nervous about sending money overseas.

Jeff,
I imported that truck for Max who is Belgian on this site. Situation was a little different in so much as he went over and looked @ it in person and drove it back to Belgium. I shipped that one out of Zebrugge as well.
Cheers,
Doug

I will see if I can;t get in touch with Max,

Damn- just realized Trey was logged into the site on my laptop.

Oh I didn't realize that. I just want to know that he's a good seller. I feel good about the condition of the truck.

Thanks Doug for linking me to this thread.

I did have a good experience with Classic Defenders. As for overseas contact: I send them an email with the question for more specific pictures. And I got a fast response with accurate picture. The background description of the vehicle was correct (And this was extremely important since we were talking about a genuine Camel Trophy Defender). I checked everything with the drivers of the event and Doug advised me to get the heritage document which was extremely helpful. So they were correct.

I did send a friend who lived in Belgium to check it out. I guess that was just the paranoid me (Doug knows I can be pretty paranoid). After this, I knew he was legit and I bought it. I had it delivered at my address in Belgium. And it was delivered in a timely manner.

After that, I just worked out the logistic side in Belgium, arranged transport to Zeebrugge en Doug worked his magic. This means that they personally do not have any experience transporting to the US. They just sold it to a 18 year old and delivered it in Belgium, who got in touch with the expert Doug.So the statement where they send a truck to the US is incorrect (And they already referenced me a customer with this question and I gave him exactly the same answer).

So if you are wondering if they can deliver the truck at an agreed up time at a certain location: the answer is yes. (At least it was in my case). If you are wondering if they can get the truck legally in the US: the answer is probably no. They have no experience with this kind of export I think.

But I personally had a good experience with them. I hope this helps and I hope you have the same experience if you decide to go this route! Also tell him I said hi! And if you have any translation issues let me know, Dutch is my primarily language.

Max that is great to hear. They have been very forthcoming with pictures and documents. I am more concerned with condition than heritage as you were with your truck. But the pics look pretty good so I think I'm ok there. I guess I just wanted to know that somebody could vouch for them and that I wasn't getting scammed because I have had waves of paranoia about this situation as well.

They are able to get the truck to Zeebrugge as in your case and I have been talking to Doug about the rest.

The condition of my truck was about the same as it was described and as the pictures were showing. In my case, however, the originality was way more important that the condition. And I am sure they knew that. So I cannot really vouch for a “regular” defender.

But I believe the seller is honest (as honest as a seller can be haha).

And thats a perfect combination. I am positive that your car will make it to Zeebrugge and I am sure you already know Doug’s excellent feedback.

Hi Jeff,
I will be going to the NEtherlands after Christmas. I can check it out for you if you want?
I know most of the defender rebuilders. I do not know these guy's personally but reading a lot of good stuff about them on the Dutch LARO forums they are ok! Did you deal with Paul?

Well that's more good news. I think I was dealing with Haks at first then their responses were from Carsten & Haks. They definitely present themselves well and I have had a good feeling about them but just didn't want to be the fool.

At this point it looks like it will still be there on Xmas but hopefully leave shortly after.

Yes, I was wondering how you know Maxim and started googeling and yes the second option was the story of a Camel Defender from Classic Defenders!

Is it possible to sell Defenders in this forum?

Haks

Yes, people buy and sell them here all the time. There are "vendor" options but I don't know how that works. You have to keep in mind that this place is full of enthusiasts who can be very particular. Often times trucks will sell for a little less here than on ebay or at dealers, but they go to good homes.

And Doug, 130tdi, is a trusted importer so many people look to him to help with their overseas purchases.

Hey Haks, good to see you here!
Hope you can send that wonderful defender to Jef. If I knew you were selling one of those I might have bought it first haha!

And the Camel is doing well, it looks a little weird in pink though.

Haha grapje, hij is nog altijd helemaal origineel! Herken je de kameel nog?
