Dealer dented my LR4.

Went to pick up LR4 from dealer yesterday, and during windscreen replacement they forgot to replace cowl which I had brought in. So they said they would keep for the day to replace cowl, and return to my house this AM.

Then I get a call, "slight fender bender by lot porter"...

They stated they are going to repair. I sent detailed email regarding removal of wheel arch, removal of rear signal and bumper, removal of window, buff out entire car to match, and told them I will bring a magnet to ensure they do not just putty the shit out of the quarter. And to inspect components behing quarter. I think AC on Driver side... Told them if this was a problem to let me know before commencing repair and I would contact my insurance company.

Also told them "DO NOT REPORT THIS TO CARFAX!".

Am I over the top?

Worst part is the Discovery Sport HSE loaner! Those things SUCK.

Is the quarter steel on an Lr4 ? Most rovers would be aluminum and magnet of no help to sus out filler.

Interesting, is there a legal requirement to report vehicle damage that I'm not aware of? Does Carfax incentivize businesses to report stuff? I've never thought about it before.

Ask for pics of the process. You might want to notify your insurance company. With USAA you can notify them and use them for assistance without filing a claim and your rates won't go up.

I would have the dealer pay to have it repaired at the shop of your choosing. Right now, the dealer controls everything. You need to be in control of your vehicle that they damaged.

Most dealers in my experience outsource bodywork. You could find out what shop they use and interact directly with them, I'd imagine.

Super pissed off

Got the truck back:
Orange peel
Fish eyes
Sanding marks

This is how a LR dealer fixes damage they caused?

Called and left message, no return call yet. Will try again tomorrow.

May be time to call my insurance.

See my earlier post. They are not working for you or in your best interests.

Why did you accept the truck? I would have left it there and told them the work was unacceptable.

Wow, that's very disappointing. In hindsight could that damage have been a good candidate for a high-end paintless dent repair facility?

I was amazed at the job a paintless dent guy did on my fiance's 3 Series. I thought for sure the rear 1/4 would have to be fixed with filler and paint. $150 and twenty minutes later...

Kip, I would make them fix it again for sure. I always try to leave my insurance company out of it when I can help it. Fish eyes, orange peel, and sanding marks can often be fixed with some more wet sanding/buffing etc

Adam, you are correct but I suspect the sanding marks are in the filler. The more I see it the more I am pissed.

As has been stated, should have called insurance first.

I would just report it now to insurance and explain what happened. Doubt this being on the carfax will hurt the value. It isn't a defender and its minor. Not like these things retain their value you anyway. Pretty sure my LR4 depreciated more every month than the payment.

On another note, some of the worst body work I have ever seen has been by Land Rover dealer outsourced shops. If you search for my old 110 you can see the amazing filler that was used by the dealer's body shop.
