Usually you can't believe anything you read in the Sun. It's the joke tabloid that took the place of News of the world. I have considered purchasing one of the last year production models, should be money in the bank right?

I was told by an employee of LRNA that the Defender production line is being converted for the L402 (I think that is the number) or otherwise known as the new Range Rover. He saw it in person.

My brother's, cousin's, uncle told him that a girl at band camp was told by her grandfather, that all of Tata's future Defender Production through 2061, will be done in Rhode Island.

I saw yesterday that because of public outcry, they were going to make the dc100 it's own bs and were going to tweak the defender design a little but mostly keep the same. BUT that was from a Facebook post so......

Tata is forming a joint venture with China’s Chery Automobile Co. to build Land Rovers for the “Asia market”. I wonder how long it will be before Chinese built LR4s and spare parts start arriving on these shores for sale as well. Similar to BMW’s 3-series plant opening in SC about 20 years ago. They told the Deutsche not to worry about a US built Bimmer being sold in Deutschland. That lasted about a year.

Isnt it more likely that they would shift Defender production to China and build the modern trucks in the UK? I mean, if you had never seen a defender before, had no knowledge of its origin, and were tasked with taking one apart would you be able to say with confidence "this was NOT built in China!"

the panels are thin
the hardware is mix-n-match
panel gaps are filled with caulk
they aren't air OR water tight
wiring passes through frame

And the Chinese are masters of copying an existing idea or product using what materials they have on hand- which exactly explains the origin of Land Rover does it not?

Sure thing. The Defender is one of the last hand built vehicles and labor is cheap in China. I am not knocking the idea if it is necessary to sustain the buisness. And you are right -- they could probably turn out a better product!

Can we discuss what is important. What does everyone think of the sawtooth wheels. I like them.

Keep it PUMA or let it die.

I have it on good authority that there will be a defender replacement. It is not the DC100 but it's not the defender as we know.

Sounds like a mid 80s car from Detroit. Maybe Defenders will be imported from Detroit.
