Dash lights a floating bulb

1. yes I have made a search of this no found my answer (but now have a project list of things to do)

2. Truck just back from the dealership (uggh) and they took the dash apart to replace the spedo cable. Seems a dash board light has slipped and not in the correct position. Looking at the dash, specifically right above the tach I can see the bulb behind some vents. One of the green dash lights is sitting right there.
When I look at all the gauges, they all seem lit - with the same weak intensity I am used to. So I can not figure out where the bulb has slipped from.

Ideas? And yes I do want to fix it.

Hmmm, lets see here.

This should be an easy fix.

First you need to remove the frame that holds your gauge cluster. It's only four screws and extremely simple. There are two on each side. One is located at the top on each side of the panel and the two are located on the underside.

Once these are removed gently pull the frame away. Depending on how much slack they left it will only go so far becasue the speedo cable is attached. Reach behind the speedo and pull the cable out. Its locked in there so you'll have to give it a good pull. Be sure to pull directly back and not side-to-side. You might break the mechanical needle if you wobble it too much.

After you've removed the cable you can pull the frame away a bit more, which should allow you to grab the bulb and reinsert it into its orignial position. It's probably the bulb that belongs in the fan control, but you'll be able to tell once you've got the dash open.

Thanks Dr. Menasco
My concern with opening the cluster was unfounded and this weekend I will fix it. Maybe even repace the bulds with LEDs

Oh, and I would make the dealership fix it, bu it took them 7 business days to figure out the spedo cable and the water pump. The dash light is at least a day again.

Later today I will post a seperate thread - my wife is pissed off about all this and told me to get a another car - I get to keep the truck too!! It'll be a Yarvis or some similar sub compact but I do so love my wife these days.

I would take her comment as a threat. hehe Just tell her no car lasts forever and they will inevitably all need work. Ever checked the price for a set of batteries on a electric/hybrid car? At least you can work on the D yourself, whereas all the other assembly line saloon cars need specialists that make 6 figures (You would think they do with how much the stealer charges)

Neil is right.

Wives naturally sense that a man's vehicle(s) are out to usurp thier poistion as the dominant female in the family core. The only way around it is to get a mistress and let her bare the brunt of the jealousy.

Works every time, unless your mistress is better looking. Then you're just asking for it.

Send me a PM if you have any problems with the dash.
