D90 owner poll: Your D90 or aTLC Icon?

OK Defender owners

Who would keep their ~$30K Defender 90 and who would opt for a theoretical $30K Icon?

Take the survey:

1. once, please.
2. only if you already own a Defender 90

So far: Out of 13 who voted, 12 preferred their D90 and 1 would jump on the Icon bandwagon.

My Defender 90 all the way! 92.3% 12
TLC Icon. Brand loyalty is over-rated! 7.7% 1

Yay! A vote in which I actually feel like I made a difference! Maybe LR Int'l will see the results and bring back a real defender instead of an epic fail!

As I said Im not allowed to vote since Javier now has my D90 but this is maddening. Im as LR loyal as anyone ....currently owning 3 and at times having as many 6 but seriously this insanity. You would rather take a 30k Defender which is 15 years old with no doubt close to 100k miles on it over a brand new, 0 miles hand built Icon? How does that make sense?

John-
I understand the insanity, but I think it would be safe to say that the numbers would be starkly different if this survey was posted at ICON-4X4.com. I fly old ass C-130s in combat conditions and love them. I drive my D-90 against trailer queen FJs/CJs/TJs and love driving home afterwards. Download "Tree Top Flyer" by Stephen Stills and understand what I'm feeling. I'd take my 135k D-90 that I've put 129k on over a 0k Toy anyday.

Just my 2 pennies...

Jay

Thanks John

This really makes no sense. I have a feeling if the truck I posted in the other link was in front of them purring with it's 2.8 powerstroke they would start an oil line fire themselves to get rid of the defender.

This is one of the most exclusive trucks out there, the equivalent of an ecr beachrunner and people are going to say they wouldn't trade their average defender for it. Lies lies lies

------ Follow up post added September 12th, 2011 05:58 PM ------

My point is there are what 20 icons out there? The idea that people wouldn't trade for one is bullshit. Yes there are exceptions but majority is going for the truck that not only is awesome like a defender but also no one has it

How/when did the survey change from the discussion thread? I thought the hypothetical was your $30K D90 or the current state ICON FJ, which is like $150K (or whatever...)

A $30K ICON vs. a $30K D90 isn't going to get any love here, because the logic would imply anyone with $30K could buy one. I think Barry is right that a huge attraction for the ICON is the limited availability (face it, that's one of the reasons we have and love our D90s) - take that out of the equation and this whole exercise is kind of meh. Might as well ask if we'd rather have the new FJ....

Sorry.

Ha I guess I was the only one that voted for the Icon. Besides the fact that if it were built up to its current levels, 30k would be a steal, how could I not vote for something made right here in the San Fernando Valley? That means I can gripe to the actual man who made it when the truck stops working.

If brand loyalty matters, shouldn't the brand be loyal to the customers too? *cough* DC100 *cough* (keep a fringe vehicle for the the fringe enthusiasts like us)
