d-90 and d-110 Kits

Why is it that nobody has come up with a "Kit" over in Europe yet? If the only stipulation to registering a vehicle in the US is the age, it would seem to me there would be a HUGE market in the US for "kits" whereas you could buy a complete Defender 90 or 110 in pieces with an '84 refurbished bulk head.

Then just ship the lot to a buyer in the US that assembles it on his/her own? And it is perfectly legal and registerable...

I am sure I am missing something here...

thanks!

Yes you are. The part were an intact vehicle has to come through customs-doesn't have to be running but has to be complete or @ least mostly so. Brought in a highly vandalized 110 last week that cleared through. Disassembled doesn't fly when applying for epa and dot exemptions.

You just have to ship one part at a time. A door here, an axle there. I think Johnny Cash sang about it.

The ironny is I believe all states allow 'homemade' vehicles, inspected and issued a home built title. So all the 110 Tdis, etc would be legit if follow the rules. The funny part is for some reason that same fully home built Rover is worth next to nothing with that title. We are our own worst enemy!!
