I'm following that too. Hope everyone on this site's loved ones are ok.

I'm starting to believe that all schools need to have armed security.

As a teacher, I can tell you that most have an SRO (school resource officer) which is a county cop permanently stationed and he/ she is armed. Im not too sure about more rural district schools though.

Wow, just wow – I looked earlier and it said possible shooting, then it said one dead, then I went and got lunch and came back and it says 27 - so sad and just unbelievable.

of the 27, 18 are reported to be children at the school including Kindergarten. Shooter was father of one of the children. He is reportedly from NJ.

I can't fathom in my wildest imagination how someone could aim a gun at a child and pull the trigger. O don't think I could even do it if the child was armed or wearing a bomb. That is just a level of rage that I hope would be beyond my capacity under even the most extreme circumstance.

Suicides are highest during the holidays... So, now people feel they have to take out as many as they can, so they can all go together. Very depressing.

Does the worldwide coverage of these events play a role? Are these people looking for fame and glory? That was what the Colorado guy wanted.

My thoughts and prayers for the families...

Very sad and extremely tragic. I still firmly believe this tragedy could have been prevented if there were armed teachers.

Are you insane ... ??

You want to arm every school teacher, have guns and ammo in schools and place the responsibility for dealing with random acts of violence on kindergarten teachers?

If you could interview the dead teacher from this mornings shooting, what do you think he/she would say to you if they knew you were glad they never had access to a gun the moment before being shot? (because that gun could have been a fighting chance)

In a sane world, there would be no school shootings like this. Wake up and pay attention to what society has become and what we must be forced to do to protect ourselves and children.

Gun laws need an overhaul. I don't want my sister going to school where her teachers have guns.

Do you have children?

could you also imagine that that teacher would probably more likely prefer a situation where the shooter hadn't had access to a gun in the first place?

The notion that I don't care about the well being of children just because I don't have any is absurd. (to me it is)

Many teachers here are armed. Those that qualify and want to carry.

An event like this happened here in 1974
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ma'alot_massacre

After that...Everything changed. School layouts and security were changed. Daily SOPs and security protocols were changed. My children's school looks like a military base. A secure perimeter with several armed guards.

I have absolutely no problem with my kids teachers being armed. They go through govt training. The same level of training that our security guards have, and there are many examples of guards stopping terrorists through the years.

As a father of 2 my heart goes out for them.

You can't possible be oblivious to the fact that we have had a 2nd amentment for a very long time and that there are so many guns in our society now that it would be impossible to confiscate every single one (not even including the ones that you can manufacture with simple tools and knowledge). Your line of thinking is well meaning but its fantasy land. Wake up, guns are here to stay just like illegal aliens / drugs / Presidents with 3 muslim names whatever. Deal with it.

I understand that you believe something and I respect your beliefs ... I'm asking you so consider a counterpoint that the elimination of freely available guns ( however distasteful to you personally ) is a potential solution rather than the continuous escalation of arming everyone as a deterrent.

I apologize for questioning your sanity.
