Drove past Newtown Sunday on I84.

One of the Realtors at my sister company's Newtown office lost her daughter Caroline that day. Five other families that office helped also lost children.

Hugged my boys closely when they got home from School.

Wow! Just wow! As someone who has a little daughter in Kindergarten, my wife and I were absolutely devastated about this story. I have seen this thread posted back then, but have been avoiding it, just like I do with the news. I feel sick to my stomach just learning and hearing about what this monster did.

For whatever reason, I felt compelled to read this thread, and I am speechless! Craig, I don't know you, but I hope and pray for you and especially the kids to be able to cope with this mess! God bless!!!

Craig - Thank god your children are ok. I knew you had two in the schools but wasn't sure the ages. I took that day off to Christmas shop with my wife and answered teh reverse 911 call that came into the house. It ddin't say which school was involved but an address, which I had no idea any school addresses so frantically looked online and called my son's school to see what was going on. At the same time I felt the relief that it wasn't my son's school, I felt the devestation knowing that it was Sandy Hook Elementry School and all the kids in there, many I know.

My prayers are with you, the Sandy Hook and Newtown community. I hope your boys are able to return to a normalcy soon.

Happy New Year

I cannot begin to tell you the outpouring of love from the entire world, present company included, that is felt in Sandy Hook right now. My wife and I sat at the Obama Prayer Vigil with our sons and witnessed a Christian, a Rabbi and a Muslim leader hugging each other, weeping with one another. As my wife and I walked back to the fire house in front of the school aone night for the first time since that morning, the feeling of peace was overwhelming. It almost felt like you walked into a bubble. We thought we would feel the precence of evil but it was the polar opposite. The lessons that we have learned beyong hugging your children harder and more often is what a perfect town we live in but we took it so for granted. I get the feeling that most on this board come from small town USA (aka Sandy Hook) and that your communities are very much like ours. If I could offer you one piece of advice, hug a teacher, shake a police officer / fire fighter or Veterans hand (or just hug them too), and have more compassion for one another in this fast paced world. We are all humans and those 20 children were all of our children. Those 6 adults could have been any of our family, especially those of us from small town USA. We live in a beautiful country and we need to realize it! Thanks again to all, all of us over here TRULY appreciate it. Have a Happy New Year!

I have no words to describe what I'm feeling.

My prayers to you, your family and the Sandy Hook community.

Matt, Glenn, all, one of the most powerful things that I have realized through all of this if the power of the love of a parent. It doesn't matter if you are from Sandy Hook, Newtown, Maryland, Georgia, New York, or China for that matter. This event has instilled a fear in all of us for our children. My boys will go back to to their new school on January 3 and I can't imagine the feeling it will be putting them back on the bus or the feeling it will be sending our 4 year old Trey back to pre-school. What I can tell you is that it will be the same feeling that Glen had sending his little girl back that next day, and the same feeling that every other PARENT had sending their little ones back, no better, no worse. The power of a parents love is an amazing thing. These kids are our future.

Said so well, Craig. Our prayers are with you, your family and your community.

My sister is good friends with Donna Soto, who is Vicki's mother. I cannot tell you how many amazing stories I have heard over the past few weeks. Stories of love, support and compassion. It is so wonderful to hear.

I too hope your boys can get back to normalcy soon.

CJ was hid in a closet by his music teacher while they prayed together and he is doing OK. Matty was directly across the hall from the two classrooms that were involved. He is a mess. According to his teacher, it sounded like canons were going off, children were screaming and he heard it all. SWAT teams escorted them out of their room at gunpoint while walking over the prinicipal, school phsychologist and gunman. They had blood on their shoes. They were told to close their eyes, but as any 7 year old boy would do, he opened his and saw things that no one should ever see. As the days have passed, it only gets worse and worse. Trust me, I know that we are the lucky ones. We have several very close friends who lost their babies that day and they will never be the same. The story as Matty tells it is that they heard loud banging so his teacher turned off their lights and directed them to their cubbies (small locker type places for jackets and back packs) which went down the center of the classroom and faced away from the door for safety. After they sat in the cubbies, Matty went on to say that Mrs. Wexler (his teacher) lined up chairs in front of them and then laid across the chairs and sang to them. She would have taken a bullet for my son, how do you thank someone for that? We are struggling with the motive because if it was truly random, my son being alive today came down to this maniac going left into a classroom instead of right which would have been Matty's classroom, Again, from Sandy Hook, THANK YOU ALL. We truly feel your prayers!!!
Craig,

Thank God your children are okay. I can't imagine the pain that the families are going through. I know that the community of Newtown has come together to support the families in a way that truly demonstrates the best part of our society. My wife and daughter went to Newtown and hung an ornament on each of the trees for the children.

As a son of two teachers, I can say that Mrs. Wexler demonstrated something that I have known and experienced for a long time; many of the teachers truly consider their students their kids and would do anything to protect them. Hopefully the courage shown by the principal, school psychologist and teachers is something we recognize, cherish, and celebrate forever.

God bless and in our prayers,

JP

Craig, Our thoughts are still with you and all those affected, we all hope your children made the transition to the new school O.K today. Hope it went well and I know it will be a long process for you and many others. My wife teaches first grade in Goshen and her kids sent some things they made to decorate the new school and show support. God bless!

My thoughts and Prayers are with all the families affected. I didn't want to read this post because I have a different viewpoint on guns compared to 95% of the board. I still love Rovers though! After Reading Craigs post my heart breaks. As the father of 3 young children I'm scarred for what they have to see and hear about. I have been able to shelter them from this terrible news now living in OZ. Australia changed their gun laws after a terrible shooting is Tasmania a number of years ago. I'm not going to debate anyone but there has never been another mass shooting since then. Also, for those that don't know I'm a US citizen. Not Aussie. Most of my family are NRA members. It's time for change.
