Crested Butte, Gunnison, Lake City

OK, I am looking for some input here. In August my family is heading to Colorado for a few weeks. We are going to start at the National Rally, then spend a couple weeks around Crested Butte and Lake City. We will camp a few days on the Taylor River to spread some of my Grandfathers ashes, but then we are up in the air. I lived in Crested Butte when I was a kid, so I have a few places I would like to go. I want to head to emerald lake, and I would like to head up to Irwin as well. Other than that I am looking for suggestions on where to camp, where to fish, where to hit some good trails, looking for good/easy (have a 2 yr old and a 1 yr old) hikes, and other day trips. We would like to set up camp for a few days at a time, and see the mountains. We would also like to spend some time around Lake city doing day trips to Silverton, Carson and Ouray. We are not into camp grounds, and like to be in remote locations. I would also like to get out with anyone who wants to go out while we are there.

Try hurricane basin off of engineer pass. Quiet, scenic, ghost town/mine.

Is there a book or something that has all the backcountry roads and trails?

The Wells books are good, as is the Delorme Gazetteer. We use the Gazetteer for camping. We usually pick out a high pass with a lake/pond on it and camp there.

Let me know when you'll be there. I'll be in Crested Butte in August for a few days. Plan to fish the Taylor and Gunnison rivers. Wouldn't mind doing some trails.

What are some good trails around there that don't get covered with people?
