Land Rover Defender Defender 90 | eBay

Doesn't seem like such a crazy ending price. To me this is a good comp price that points to a bunch of overpriced 2.5 RHD trucks in the market. I'm wondering if the price of trucks with the 19j and 2.5 na engines will continue to fall?

Yea, that's where a very nice, new (for the US) left hand drive should land. Reasonable as it gets. Probably not a good "Value" as far as vehicles go. But its not about that.
The $155000 one that's been sitting for a year.. less so.

The middle front seat on that rig must make for a very comfortable ride with the driver having to shift between your legs the whole time.

That's super cheap for the market. I'd love to know if the sale actually closes.

You did see it was a 89 19j right? I don't see them locally going for more than that. Even wagons.. 30s for a really nice one in LHD. Other than the NAS dreamers. But, i'm in LR central. Much more competition.

The 2.5s should fall off precipitously when the more modern diesels become more common in the US.
Same time, the newer ones will go up in price..more valuable overseas and here. Maybe leave some room for the low power rovers to maintain their ~$6-12k price. Putting down much more than that for an MOD rover, even left hand drive would probably be a poor investment now-a-days. Thithonus garnering a bit more, given that it is in condition you'd expect from a "recently" refurbed model.

Or who knows, maybe the fad will die about the same time and it won't make much difference. Went from the occasional one posted,a few a year, on ebay to pages and pages in just a couple years, for 2-5 times the prices I paid in the past (sold my last one in ~2010).

Maybe it's in reaction to the wildly, incredibly, near irrationally popular JK and the fact you can find them factory new for over $40k now.
Popularity of one juices the whole segment, which in this case is pretty much 2 vehicles. If you think the jeep is "played" only one way to go.

Actually at these prices.. I understand why there are so many new G wagons in my neighborhood.

When I was looking at the sold completed listings that same defender sold for $33,000 then $29,000 earlier. I think a lot of the eBay stuff sells then someone tries to get a loan and the bank laughs at them. There's only so many people out there that have $29,000 cash to spend on a 25+ year old truck.

I think the wildcard is the prices for non rust bucket 200 and 300tdi trucks in the UK and ROW. If those prices continue to rise then the supply will fall off in the US keeping prices high.

When you sit back and think about it, the words Crazy and Defender do go together so well. I mean you have to be a little crazy to own a Defender...

You must have missed this part "INCLUDES 1 YEAR PLATINUM AAA MEMBERSHIP (INCLUDES 200 MILE TOWING)" - that alone is worth $150K so this is really a bargain.

Or just pick up the brand new 6x6 merc... people be dumb. There is no reason for any sane person to pay more than msrp for any rover. They're cheaply made and very common.

While I understand you simply don't get it, several of these trucks were built to a considerably higher spec than ever available from Lode Ln. Additionally simply importing the parts to build one here legally to a higher spec can be a daunting process, just ask Himalaya or Safari HP how easy the large component entry process goes for them.

Yea.. that's why I said sane. No reason to use that platform... unless its fanaticism. Which isn't reasonable.

------ Follow up post added July 29th, 2015 02:26 PM ------

That and I've never seen a special truck for sale. I'm sure they exist. All I see is regular rovers in various trims and farkleing. Custom vehicle have no reason to their price beyond cost to do it your self.

I say the same thing every time these posts are made.

The interior of that truck ALONE has over $30k invested... In parts mind you.

All of the custom wiring and finishing touches are big $$$.

While this may be a for profit build/sale I'm sure the investment is there on this truck.

It's like when you see a Ferrari parked in the street and you say 'if I had that car I wouldn't park it THERE!' The reality is, if you had the money you wouldn't care

Most of these defender importers are inspired by 'Fast n Loud' type shows. They think they will make a 100k a month building these up, the 183k asking price is probably meant to be negotiated down to 40k. All of this nonsense is borne of stupid car shows on TV.
