I've had the great good fortune to share my life with 6 wirehairs over the years. This is Griz. He's been gone for over 10 years now. He was a monster in the field, hunting with the stamina of two dogs. The picture is starting to fade but I will never forget what an honor it was to spend time with him, in the field or on the couch. He was my hands down favorite companion.

Damn... misted up just looking at him.

Small world Rod, don't come across many GWP/DD owners!

Sorry about Griz; mine are my best hunting buddies. Wirehairs just seem to have that third gear don't they?

I'm thinking we need to do a forum bird hunt out west....

Great looking dogs, Jason! I'd love to get a wirehair. Do they get too hot in Texas with that longer coat?

Sorry to hear, Rod. Great looking dog. I think my next one will be a wirehair.

You should get that pic restored and digitized and frame it. I use these guys:

How's the patient doing?

I've never had issues with mine. The youngest got dehydrated last year but that was related to a bug he had. But my dogs are very well conditioned and spent a lot of time outside.

First Night Home

I picked him up from the vet yesterday. They gave me a ten day cycle of medicine which he has to take twice a day. His energy level is high, but he is noticably less active which confuses our other dog. His entire leg, from the hip down, is swollen and has severe bruising. The snake bit him between his toes on his back left leg and the skin split badly from the swelling, but it is showing signs of healing. This morning it was noticable that the swelling has gone down even more, and he is running again. I think that by the end of next week he will be healed up. My only concern is that the wound where the skin split does not get infected.
