Copley Defenders on eBay

Looks like Stuart has listed a couple more low-mi Defenders on eBay...

1997 Green SW for $54,800 (But it Now) with 15,000 miles
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...533590781&rd=1

1997 Yellow ST for $54,800 (But it Now) with 11,000 miles
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...533926929&rd=1

The 97's look like they are still holding their value pretty well...but do you guys really think they are worth that kind of $...even considering the low miles?

Maybe 2 for the price of 1 for 54k! At least Alan at CitySide Garage is getting some good advertising, he's a good guy.

Thumbs down

Im not gonna bash Copley....But give me a F*cking break here....Who in the hell is going to give him 54,800 for a D90 with 15,000 miles on it. My D90 was 39,900 from Land Rover Asheville, NC and it had 20,000 miles on it....All Copley is doing is laughing all the way to the bank every time someone buys a defender from him at these outrageous prices.

a sucker is born every minute. he is setting the market I think, people that seem to think that D-90s will continue to appreciate and hold thier value may appreciate this. Others that see these trucks as working/play toys probally dont care. wasnt there a thread about this not o long ago.

Either way, doesn't this mean (theoretically) that all of our trucks are appreciating?
I mean, if he's setting the benchmark for what the market will actually bear (Since they are selling), doesn't that in turn mean everyone on this board that owns a 90 (Most of us) has a vehicle that is in demand and will sell for more than we think if we can hold out (Yeah yeah, milage, but it's all theoretical).

That said, I don't think many, if any, here bought their truck as an investment. Plus, there are few 90s that are still stock. That's what makes 90 owners unique, we actually use them, break 'em, fix 'em, break 'em, fix 'em...you get where I'm going.

Personally, I don't think it affects me 'cause I don't plan on selling, ever, and I doubt any of you do either. So I say go for it, sell 'em high and then let's all get 'em dirty when some new owners figure out how much fun it is. I mean, at least he's selling them and there's a possibilty someone's gonna buy one and start tearing it apart, adding to it, posting on here, selling crap, buying crap, and making it their own.

Man, where'd that come from?

Only time will tell what the market will do for D90's...I know im not ever planning on selling mine, but we can sit and argue about this till the sun comes up and still be right here wondering if Copley is crazy and wonder why people pay his prices. Who knows; in a few years you might see D90's selling for way more than what hes asking but I doubt it....

I think Jesse has it right. $$$ is what the market will hold. If they are selling at that kind of value, damn! Having said that, are these D90s selling and getting these prices? Seems like they by every ebay car on the market and jack up the price quite a bit (it seems that way but I have no idea).
I will say, I have never seen a cleaner D90 than when I stopped of at Copley when passing through Boston 2 or 3 yrs ago. They had 3 in stock I felt like mine was the black sheep of the family. If they are selling, power to everyone who has a 1997.

AND ALSO ... What the hell is it with a 1997 - an 8 year old truck with 1000 to 2000 miles a year on the clock!!??? Excuse the language but drive the F@#KIN' thing and enjoy it!

And what the hell, today I priced a LR3 and freaked out there. $54000 + taxes and that is without a winch or stuff (no way am I takin' $54k off road. No wait, no way am I paying $54k period!)

Well, he didn't ask that much unless he knows someone will pay the $$$. Now I hope 97 D90's will depreciates soon b/c I'll be buying one for my daughter and then they can go up from there

Now that green SW looks hot with the painted roof!

Copley has regular ads in the Dupont Registry all the time. His obviously targeting the "upper crust" of society as his Defender ads are alongside the Lambos and Ferraris in that magazine. Somewhere some instant millionaire will spot that ad and possibly start "pimpin" Defenders with 22" rims.

I think Copley is realizing that the market for our trucks is going down and being a self-proclaimed Defender drug dealer, he's taking advantage of the market and trying to keep the prices up for him. I'm just amazed on how he finds these super low-mileage trucks.
