I actually have a funny McGukins Land Rover story. When I first moved to Boulder 20 years ago, a guy I worked with insisted that I should go with him to McGukins and there wasn't anything that I needed that they didn't have.

So he took me to their extensive loose bolt area beeming with pride. "Ask them for anything" he said. Do you have any Witworth bolts I asked?

"No."

My coworker was devastated.

Yeah, I went to CU from '93-'97 and worked at McGuckins for a year. I sure miss Boulder. Especially in the spring when the girls start wearing shorts again!

So who's is it? And BTW my Buddies truck was a Red 4runner with a TJM bumper on it and a few parking spaces down.

That looks like a 110 that was on ebay September of last year. I just looked and the ebay ad is expired but it looks like what I remember and... If I remember it went for like 50K?

You and me both! That picture brought back some memories! If I'm not mistaken, there are two 110's that look similar out in that area. I think I used to see this one cruising around Boulder with a kayak on the roof. There is another one, Chance knows the owner, that is all rebuilt with a galvanized chassis and a TDI in it. I used to see it parked at LR Flatirons all the time.

I've met the owner of the one pictured. Nice guy. We did some trails together at the national rallye a couple years back. Looks like he's bolted some more stuff on since I've last seen it. It's got a Td5 in it, BTW. I've got the steelies from his 110 on my HCPU.

I never heard of Witworth either.

Here is what I found on British fasteners.

“That’s easy!” I hear you say, “It’s Wentworth!”
How wrong could you be! First off, it’s ‘WHITWORTH’, named after Joseph Whitworth who invented the
coarse thread, also known as BSW (British Standard Whitworth). This thread was ideal for steam trains, traction
engines and larger industrial machines. It had an angle pitch of 55 degrees.
Because the coarse Whitworth thread could, in certain circumstances, vibrate loose, a finer thread (more threads
per inch) was developed, and standardized as BSF (British Standard Fine). BSW threads are often used on
aluminum castings, (crankcases etc) because they are less likely to strip out, unlike the finer BSF thread.
BSF threads are very common on British Motorcycles and cars. BSF is similar in thread count to UNF, but they
cannot be interchanged.
BSW thread counts are almost identical to the American thread UNC, however the angle of pitch is different. In
many circumstances the two will mate, but this could be dangerous. Many British vehicle restorations have been
‘cobbed up’ using UNC.
