Cheap rearview mirror replacement

My rearview mirror was pretty crappy and I didn't feel like paying $45 for a replacement so I Googled the markings on the back of the mirror (Donnelly with a string of 1s and 0s) and found a CIPA 32000 at Amazon for $14.40. Got it yesterday and literally unscrewed the old one and screwed in the new (and it had the same Donnelly markings.) Just thought I would post this so it shows up in future searches.

That's a great deal. The vast majority of all rear view mirrors are made by either Donnelly or Gentex. I replaced mine with a Gentex off Ebay that is auto dimming and also has Temp and Compass built in. They cost considerably more, but if anyone is looking for a rear view mirror with some additional options, you can find them on ebay. They offer them with map lights, temp, compass, homelink, auto-dimming, and virtually any combination of those options. Just food for thought for anyone else looking to replace one and reading this thread.

Do you remember which Gentex model you purchased? Looking to do the same upgrade in my trucl Any specific wiring parts needed or do I just splice it into the dome light?

I don't recall the exact model, but you will find a plethora of them on ebay. I just went through the listings and found the ones with the options I wanted, then compared prices. I think it cost around $170 or so shipped and came with all the wiring, mounting hardware in case yours differs, and the exterior temp sensor. All it needs is a power source, and if you get the one with the temp sensor, you have to run that wire somewhere outside of the cabin and plug in the sensor. IIRC I mounted the sensor under the wing near the black vent.

I wouldn't use the dome light wiring. They are normally on a constant power circuit which would mean the mirror would be live all the time.

Right, I have a 110, so I already had ignition power up there from the factory dimming mirror, but you will need to run a 12+ Switched wire up there from the dash.
