Caution Potential Scam

I recently posted a thread regarding TJM bumpers for sale. I have received an email from one Jacob Geldrich
who has stated that one of his client's owes him $3,500 & that he will instruct the client to issue a certified check to me in that amount & that I should immediately cash the check, deduct cost of bumper & forward
balance to his 'shipper', who will arrange for pickup @ the address I specify. This has SCAM written all over it so beware & if any other members have experienced this, please let me know. Regards, JAX

Hmm, he asked about my roof rack too. Despite the fact the word SOLD was posted.
His grammer was pretty poor as well.

I'd be willing to bet it's a scammer.

Good to know. Thanks for posting.

Hey! sounds like a good deal to me! I would get a $3,500 bogus check and deposit it (takes 1 wek to 2 weeks to bounce) while I wait for it to clear, I would then send the "buyer" the balance of $3,000 from my own account,
(less the $500 he is sooooo willing to pay) , whereas he will cash my $3,000 check and take off, and I would be stuck with a bounced check, the bumper I originally wanted to sell, and a loss of $3,000 from my own account.
SWEET!

I received a similar email when I was selling my Series hardtop. As far as I can remember, I had only posted on lrx.com. Anyhow, I replied that this was an interesting proposition, and asked for more info.

To make a long story short, I gave him my PO Box to send the check, but he wanted the home address. All the time, I knew this was a scam, and I wanted to see how far he'd take it. He wanted my home address to send the check.

At this point, I had had enough and told him it had been sold.

I think we're all pretty good at using common sense, we are Land Rover owners after all, right?

Javier

It's been happening here in Dallas to people advertising in the newpaper. Well forged money orders or cashiers checks both from in state and out of state. Mostly bigger items - cars, boats, furniture, etc.

Yup. Same thing happened to me when I was selling my RRC on LRX. I strung him along for a while. It was fun!

I had one of those scams when selling off ebay. Offered to pay way to much for an item...wanted it shipped once I got "confirmation" from some bogus "paypal copy" site.
I got a nice plastic box and got shipping amounts to Africa....But I planned on putting a can of Sardines and taking a nice crap in the box and taping it shut.......
I would have loved to been there when they opened it up, thinking they had a video projector....a bunch of liquified, putrified mess would spill out.....but the shipping was like $25.
So I never did it.......

reminds me of this story, the guy sold a powerbook on ebay to a scammer, he realized it was a scammer, but decided to send a fale notebook anyways so that the scammer would have to pay the import tax on it... http://www.newssocket.com/features/article/231/page/4/
