Well - decided to drive it.

I am always up for a trip and can plan it around some farmed out paint work on the boat I am building currently.

So i will driving it home myself very soon. Who wants to meet me along the way for lunch/dinner or just so I can stretch my legs for a minute and meet a friendly face? I'll probably take 70 most of the way across.

Doug

+1 on Athena. I have shipped everything from Range Rovers to exotics with her and every car got here with no problem/no issues.

Hey guys,

Need my truck shipped from Los Angeles to Connecticut. Can't reach Jeff Barnes. Tried Mercury Auto Transport and they came in very cheap and were helpful--they are the front-runner for me. Just wondering if anyone else had recommendations for the cross country route.

Thumbs down

Don't use GIZMO LINK, the internet broker. Gustavo can tell you what a joke Beevis & Butthead were to deal with!

I'd like to bring this thread back from the tombs.
I need to ship a 97 D90 from San Diego to Atlanta in a couple of weeks and I'd like to get any updated feed back.
Thanks!
Mike

Mike,

The recommendation I have from Ken (Bobcat110) to move a 110 from FL to TX is a broker he uses:

Athena...her number is 954-892-6905

Ken's website (he's out of the country for a week BTW)

The Great British Motor Company.....gbmotorco.com

I called her this morning and got a "number has been disconnected" message.

DMT is supposed to be back to me with a quote by COB tomorrow.

Thanks,
Mike

I hate em all. I have resorted to using Uship.com because they have to pick it up in 5 days. Shipping 4-8 trucks a month with transporters gets you fed up with that profession quickly. My advice is don't pay any kind of deposit since thats usually the shipping brokers income who just shops the job to independents. Once they get paid follow through sucks.

Which is exactly what happened with the Nation Wide. It also means that once they broker it, they have no skin in the game to ensure that it goes well. It may also lead them to falsly list the vehicle or the paramenters of the shipment in order to attract more/lower bids from the transporters. I did find out from the shipper that most brokers take about $300 off the top and that it costs this particular shipper about $1200 to actually get a vehicle from coast to coast. YMMV.

Are a lot of them requirng deposits nowadays? Mine was just all cash once it was delivered and inspected. The driver from Coast to Coast had hauled multiple Defenders and we even chatted it up for a bit. Mine was under $1k from Idaho to NJ back in 2010, and the driver would either text or call on a daily basis the 4 days leading up to the delivery, so that i could plan ahead.

Wait, their site specifically says they will not deliver a truck to GA?

Other than U-Ship, has anybody got any recommendations on moving a non-running truck from South Florida to AZ?

Josh,
Correct, I just called also and Kelli told me the same thing. They would haul it from Seattle to Atlanta but not San Diego.
Thanks,
Mike

Check that number and make sure you didn't fat finger it. Pretty sure Athena's number is not disconnected.

She may still be using this e-mail, but I don't think the number is out of service, either.

That's the number I got from post # 8 in this thread which is different than the number you posted this afternoon.
I'll give that one a try and let y'all know what I get.
Mike

Just called the 954-892-6905 number you posted today and got her voicemail. hopefully I'll get a call back.
