Probably running around on corporate plates.

So we have task force agents AND C&D writers lurking on the board now?

This is all a waste of tax payer money. Even if it were legal to import I personally don't think demand would be that high. Here in AU I don't see that many. At the local LR dealer they maybe have 1. Crazy with all the issues we have in the US to waste time, money, and energy on defenders.

You have, and have had, Defenders since the beginning. You also have, and have since the beginning, many different versions of the Land Cruiser. You also have, and have since the beginning, quality midsize truck offerings from Toyota, Ford, Mitsubishi, VW, Mazda, etc...

Point? We dont have any of the above. Your car market isnt exactly the same thing as our car market.

The Australians favor land cruisers. They have a saying ... If you want to go to the outback take a land rover. If you want to come back alive, take a land cruiser.

You preach the danger of Defenders and their accessories over and over. I'm kind of curious, why do you own one?

Because I like them.

I know and accept the risk of owning one.

I'm not in denial about the safety when compared to other vehicles.

I made the same assessment for commuting 70 miles per day all year round on a motorcycle in the UK.

I try to point out the dangers to those that aren't aware so they can hopefully make an informed decision about their choice.

This is correct, but Ill share with you the Aussies import American Trucks and pay big money for them. So like us they want what they don't have. Recently came across a Ford Raptor and the guy had well over 125K in it. Additionally, cars are much more expensive. An LR4 starts at 75K and runs well over 120K for the HSE. Also, I'm an American living in OZ for a couple years as was mentioned. I did purchase a new 110 as I figured it was my one chance to own a legal new Defender. Love it with all its faults. I still can't figure why you can ride a motorcycle without a helmet but I can't legally drive a new Defender because its not safe?

Lets be realistic. If motorcycles were invented today they wouldn't be allowed to go on the highway.

I hate the fact that I think you may be right.
