Splines were very worn inside and out, pinion bearing and seal shot. Made sense, especially at the price, to go ahead and just rebuild the whole unit. They were finishing up at 7:30 tonight when we stopped by on our way in from Kruger. That picture was taken at 8:00 this morning. I think Vernon and his son are loving working on the Camel. The bulk of their business is rebuilding Defender game viewers from all over Southern Africa. He's got about a dozen coming in next month on flat beds from one lodge in Botswana.

Isn't it great how a land rover gets you closer to the locals! Imagine if you had been driving a Toyota.

Any idea why they have the body off of that sport?

Matt,

Bob sounds to be acting out like Oliver (our 15 year old Cairn Terrier) when we leave him at home by himself. I read a good article about this and I can't seem to put my finger on it at the moment. It was written by a gentleman in Africa and suggested at the ways in which Land Rovers appear to be dependent and emotional creatures. Maybe someone else has a link to the article online. It was posted on Expedition Portal sometime back.

When we leave Oliver at home by himself he usually will find something to lift his leg on, even though he has a dog door he can easily go in and out on his own. It's a way for him to let us know he is "pissed" (pun intended). When we come home he gets all excited to see us at first, but then gives us the cold shoulder as a way of pouting about us leaving him at home.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, Bob sounds to be pissed at you for leaving him in lock-up in Zambia and now he's acting out as a way of getting back at you, just like Oliver does with us! We usually fix it by throwing a few treats at him, taking him him on a walk, and showing him some attention. After that, all is then forgiven!

Usually it is either a trans or engine replacement situation. All of the modern LR's are worked on that way.

I'm guessing that switch melted due to the brake lights having a substandard ground. bad ground leads to things getting hot when they are on. check your chassis ground and the grounding for the lights themselves in the back tub. good luck and God speed

Moved into a Cape Town apartment for a few days. Love the view and my parking space.

Met Harry Katrakilis this morning, former 40+ year owner of Land Rover South Africa. Harry and his father built the very first double cab 127. When LR execs saw it, they put it into production. He has 11 classic Rovers in his car collection, including a winning CT Disco.

Staying in town for the Volvo race parties ? I remember some epic ones in Annapolis when I lived there. Water taxi rides from party to party.

Oh yeah. Those parties are good... Especially when they are free.

There's only one way for a 200tdi's performance to put a huge smile on your face...step 1: turbo waste gate actuator linkage retainer e-clip must pop off. Step 2: you mustn't notice that's it's popped off. Step 3: you must blame recent lack of power on headwinds and altitude. Step 4: drive over a 1000kms. Step 5: reconnect G'damn turbo waste gate actuator linkage retainer e-clip. Step 6: find a robot(stop light), punch it and grin.

Imagine this dilemma...there are so many great Land Rover shops in your area that you can't decide which one to leave your truck with.

I went with Roverland. Father/daughter run operation in business for 40 years. Could not be happier...unless I wasn't flying to Boston in 2 days.
