California People ...

What are your grey market or early series rovers listed as in the smog check computer? I've been to two smog stations and both of them get their panties all in a wad because in their system there is no such thing as a 1980 Land Rover.

Yes it was registered in California by the previous owner. I'm just attempting to re-smog it and they keep wanting to list it as an LR3 not a Series 3 and heaven knows this Series 3 will never smog at LR3 levels.

California People ...

Let me check with a friend of mine who owns a smog place. Do you have an old CA registration or title in hand?

We can chat offline if you want, via PM.

If the previous owner had it registered in ca then it should already be in the system. Are you still running the same plates?

The issue it sounds like, at least until now, is that he's not able to smog it because the smog stations are clueless to what the truck is, and can't figure a way to properly enter it into their systems, in order to smog it.

Where are you in California?

------ Follow up post added May 24th, 2015 08:44 PM ------

My recommendation would be to go to a Land Rover shop that does smog.

You may try a Smog Referee? They're located at community colleges in Ca. Here's some info: http://www.foundationccc.org/WhatWeD...3/Default.aspx

I'm glad I don't live in California. Of course there are better places than where I am now.

Thanks guys. I'm in North County San Diego. Yes the problem isn't smogging, it should pass the smog test legally and and totally legit. The problem is that when I show up and tell the smog tech it's a 1980 Land Rover they say, "no it's not, that's not in our system. It must me an LR3." I say, no its definitely not an Lr3" then they say "well I don't know what to enter it as"

It looks like the previous smog on it by the PO put it as an Lr3 but I have no idea how that worked for him.

And yes, it is a total pain to be a rover owner in California.

------ Follow up post added May 25th, 2015 11:17 AM ------

Basically I'm wondering if any of the other 1970 or 1980s rover owners here in CA could let me know what was entered into "the system" as far as model.

So did they just leave the model blank? Or did they list it as a Land Rover Land Rover?

Land Rover Land Rover

But it doesn't need to be smogged so I haven't had this issue.
