Cali, PNW trip

Hey All,

So it looks like I'll be heading out to the west coast next month. I'll be in San Diego, and LA for a week or so around July 4th, then driving up and/or taking a train to the Pacific Northwest to visit some friends in Seattle and Olympia. Might even try to pop up to Vancouver for a bit.

Looking for guidance on route to take, places to stop, places to eat, drink and be merry, take in views, etc., if I drive north, and possibly some couches or camping recommendations along the way.

I'm arriving in SD on 7/3 and leaving from SeaTac on the 20th. Everything in between is pretty open schedule-wise so far though things will firm up in time. I'll be on a tight schedule but there's always time to meet up with folks and down a few cold ones.

Thanks!
Dave aka RenChing

Contact Brian at Defenders Northwest. You should stop by his shop at least. He also has good suggestions for that route.

If you want to get out in the water for a surf, I'm just north of San Diego about 25 minutes in Encinitas. Give me a shout.

Crap, I'm 10 days behind you into San Diego. I want to meet Dave Chingsteen in person!
Anybody want to meet up the week of July 13th I'll be in Coronado doing absolutely nothing other than eating, drinking, beaching and sleeping. P.M. Me and we can figure something out.
Dave,
I have always wanted to drive the PCH from San Diego to San Francisco. Sounds like you have the opportunity to do that.

Dave,

The train it great, done it several times from San Jose to Seattle. Get a sleeper if you can won't regret it.
As far as driving, Hwy 1 is the prettiest/slowest, Hwy 5 fastest/boring thru Ca until you get to the mtns. 395 might be the most interesting.
Never been here before things to not miss. Big Sur, Death Valley, Redwoods(lots of places mainly hwy 1-101). Crater Lake, Mt St Helens, Boeing museum.

Hmmm, drive Hwy 1 to San Jose, catch the train to................

HTH
