Buyer Beware - Black 94 NAS D90

I was about to purchase this vehicle and had an inspection done. They did not disclose many of the issues found in the inspection. Before anyone else spends money on this vehicle, take a look at my inspection to know what you are getting yourself into! This might be the right vehicle for someone, just not me....

1994 Land Rover Defender 90 2-Door 4WD 5-Speed Manual - GT Pre-Owned Autos Sales, LLC Vienna, WV 261

If you want pictures, let me know.

Both front Differential seals are leaking differential fluid on the right and left
Right Rear Brake line is Leaking and the brake lines are very rusted
Rear Brake Rotor needed to be replace including brake pads. (Might need brake calipers on the rear)
Rear Bumper Support Bar is rusted with holes in it
Small oil seeping from the differential
Differential H and Low works normal but electronic differential lock switch does not work.
Both rear Shocks need to be replaced.
Right Front under floor is rusted and open
Brake fluid level is low because the brake fluid leaks.
Brake Light stays on because brake fluid level is low
Front Windshield has a chip on the windshield
Left front turn signal housing and light bulb is missing
Left front Turn Signal light next to head light are not working
Left rear brake light is dim electrical repair needed.
Oil Leak under the engine

For the price they are asking (plus it has a 2.8 diesel motor) and your list above I don't think it deserves a warning. The rusted right front floor would be a bit of a concern but pictures would be helpful as to the extent of damage. All and all I would say it is a fair price for a 22 year old NAS truck.

Sounds like my rig on a relatively good day.

What Dave said...thats why its not $45k...seems like a steal to me. Since when does an unrestored defender require a disclosure that it leaks fluids? . you should of bought it spent a few weekends fixing the issues and could of had a much more valuable truck....id wager it will be sold today sight unseen to a flipper.

Depending on pics of rust it sounds like you could put in ~$6k (which no matter what you should always have budgeted for immediate repairs and to bring a truck up to a known standard) and have a pretty awesome truck for $34k. That rear diff oil leak would be a deal breaker for me though.

Hard to tell what is going on in the pics but the doors look rotten too.

If the bulkhead, doors, and brake lines are all rotten I can only imagine what is going on with the frame.

From the list it doesn't seem like much but I wonder who installed the engine, when, etc. Could be a nightmare.

Really not enough info to say one way or another if it is shit for the money.

I bet your beware post just helped sell this truck. Sounds like a solid price for an easy fixer upper.

Doesn't seem like a bad deal. Put a galvy chassis under that, fix and replace any corrosion issues and that is one sweet ST. Good deal for a handy buyer. Tempting if didn't live in CA. If that was original engine I would offer.

The frame condition scared me as did the fact that the seller tried to talk me out of getting an inspection. The way I looked at it was if the doors are rusted through (they are), the brake lines, a rusted hole in the footwell, the bumper is rusted w a hole, etc - the frame/bulkhead must be too...

I really just wanted this guy to be honest w the condition of the vehicle and not try to tell me that "an inspection" is not needed.

Hope someone can buy it, fix it up and love it. Just trying to help the community so someone else doesn't need to spend the money on an inspection and time wondering about some of these things.

If I had the money, the space, the tools, the knowledge, and the time, I would buy this and fix it up for myself.
I think the biggest hurdle is the money followed by the knowledge.

You can send it back to Pendy to keep your other truck company.

Good one.
My next home is going to have a big enough garage to work on things. I do plan on eventually replacing my tools that were stolen.
And then all I have to do is get over the intimidation factor of a big project and my impatience.
