It's all over the news....
Gyrocopter Lands on Capitol Grounds | NBC4 Washington
Ha! that still shows a guard with a dog, and it looks like the dog is taking a deuce on the copter. They had their little bomb disposal robot out looking at it earlier. Even if it blows up the most it would do is burn the grass.

The Waca doo's are at it again...
An NBC station in Tampa, Florida, received an email from a man who said he was going to fly to the Capitol to deliver letters to every member of Congress. The man in the email said his name was David Hughes, 61, and he is employed as a mailman.

The guys copter even has a US Mail emblem on it...now thats special delivery! Beat that FedEx!!

And the news said it was "something they're calling a gyrocopter!" No, that's what it's called! They've been called that for decades! Do they really expect us to all have just a 5th grade education? Or is that just the plan.

Nor should anyone be, in my opinion.

I personally find the sentiment that the White House should be guarded 24-7 by dozens of special forces operators with belt-fed ARES Shrikes, licenses to kill, as well as Phalanx CIWS systems on each corner, coupled with SAMs connected to an Aegis Combat System to be completely mystifying.

I think some of it is Americans projecting their own "castle doctrine" mindset on the President - that is, "If some guy tried to do that to my house, I'd gun them down with prejudice - why doesn't the President gun this guy down?"

Doesn't sound particularly humane, and certainly not emblematic of a free world leader.

Sometimes I wonder if Americans would prefer to see people like this turned into tomato sauce with a MANPAD, and frankly that kind of scares me.

I hear ya. Not what I would want either. I'm referring to the fact that he got that close without any form of atc awareness, intervention or non-lethal interception/deflection.

Well, he said he was going to do it, just not how. (Deliver the letters, that is) So a defense of an emergency landing in the only open space he could use won't fly! (Pun intended)

Only the innocent or law abiding citizens are punished these days, so I trust he will be fine! ;-)

...well he wasn't rigged full of explosives and was unarmed so... he's got that going for him. I'm just curious if he is a vet and as far as punishment... guess we'll just have to wait and see if they choose to make an 'example' out of him. It's definitely a first..
