Broken Odometer

I've got a 97 d90 NAS with 26k miles and an odometer that's on the fritz. The problem I'm having is exactly the same as what's detailed in the below link to EastCoast Rover. I've been told that I have three options.

1) replace the odometer but that the new one will be set at 0 miles. This doesn't seem ideal as the mileage will always be called into question.

2) do nothing. Which also isn't ideal because the odometer will eventually stop working.

3) Send the odometer to East Coast Rovers which will then send it to a shop in CA that can supposedly fix the original odometer without impacting the mileage count. See attached link.

http://www.eastcoastrover.com/speedo.html

Option 3 seems like the best option, but I'm wondering if anybody here has had any experience with this situation and can you offer any guidance. Thanks.

I cant remember the company/guy that repairs in CA. I talked to him (if same guy) a couple of years a go...very knowledgeable. Someone will chime in with the info. Repairing is the way to go, save all info and photos. A well documented repair like that goes far.

I used this company in Tampa to reset some Td5 style electronic speedometers for me. They did a good job. I would give them a call and see what they say.

Any real speedometer shop or VDO themselves can set the mileage on a new or replacement. if you are not concerned with originality, a new VDO speedometer is the lowest cost. VDO will set the mileage for you at no cost.

Thanks. Wanted to make sure this option was legit before I sent my speedometer to the other side of the country.

My bad. Not sure why I said that they pass it on to the CA company. Either way, I'm glad several of you have confirmed that speed-o is legit. Thanks.

I think aside from the Hollywood speedo comment up top, that page hasn't changed many years.

Going onto ECR's website is like going into the past.
Just by looking at it you would think it hasn't been updated since like 2007

My D90 odometer quit at almost the same mileage 10 years ago.
Last year I sent the old one that I kept for all those years to north Hollywood and they fixed it and added the correct amount of miles. So the original odometer is back in the truck with the correct miles.

Kevin is no longer there but I spoke with Jeff. He seems knowledgable.
