Broadband knowledge?

Kind of a flyer, but this is such a diverse group I thought I'd ask.....
I've had a guy approach me here at work that wants to rent space on my radio tower to put up a broadband antennae. We're in Lodo denver. As a simple cement peddlar, I have no idea what sort of rent this sort of thing would command. He offered a couple hundred a month + free broadband....

Anyone know if that sounds about right?

Thanks,
Rod

Not sure if that compares, but I was just quoted $600-800/month to get a fractional T1 at home (to do exactly what your guy is doing). So.... I am now curious to know how much that would cost him to get the antenna (and the power.... maybe solar powered?). Personally, I would do it for $50/month, free broadband and insurance paid by him (thunderstorms in Denver?). I am paying $50/month for brandband today, so that would be like a gain of $100! (in 4 months, new bumper! :-) ).

It sounds more like he is going to be a broadband wireless provider. Since it doesn't cost you anything I'd say it's a great deal for you, regardless of the protential earnings he might make off it. And if he is successful, it just means you are helping fill a much needed lack of broadband access in that area.

$200-300 a month is about standard for tower space + power. Maybe a little more if they need a broom closet or something inside to keep more gear. You'll likely get very decent broadband speeds, so if it was me, I'd probably do it for $200.

It's not like I wanted to retire off this deal, I just didn't want to be laughed at at cocktail parties for making an ignorant deal.

Thanks for your input.

Rod-

Cell companies probably spend more $$$ on this sort of thing, but my Father-in-law was approached by a cell company to put a tower on his land in Washington State to the tune of about $600/mo. And this was 5-6yrs ago...

But adding a tower is slightly different than using renting space on an existing tower! ;-)
