Bringing back the Defender?

Does anybody have the complete story about British billionaire Jim Radcliffe bring back the Defender on British soil.
It's in the Times and Sunday Times today.

So who will be first? Radcliffe or China with the Land Defence.

China already copied the Defender but it had way too high of a build quality and their market research showed conclusively that the average Defender owner is an idiot and would never purchase a vehicle that didn't break down on a regular basis so they scrapped the whole plan and went back to ripping off Hondas and Gucci bags.

P.s. I think it was was called the Rand Rower Refender, not sure though.

And Land Rover is suing another Chinese company for copying the Evoque.
LR sold rights to the old V8, so anything is possible.

So this means we could end up with cheap Chinese replacement engines in the future? I wonder what corners they will cut.
Maybe lead tainted aluminum engine blocks that will lead to lead poisoning every time we work on our Rovers.
Or the opposite; cheap casting that will break.

Good grief no. The engine was sold to a British company.
That way they are guaranteed to leak and then fail.

Here's another article, but not really any more info. Interested to see how this turns out.

Queen's favourite car, the Land Rover Defender, could make a comeback under new plans by Ineos boss Jim Ratcliffe | City A.M.

My understanding is Land Rover hasn't acknowledged they've even discussed it. So at this juncture: a long shot.

this could be Land Rover behind the scenes in pre-market hype for the new defender. controlled leaks happen all the time to create a specific public response.

British motoring history is littered with broken promises and car brands 'saved'. Someone gets very rich, someone gets very poor and no cars get made.

I am pretty sure it is. I swore I saw one at one time but it was many many years ago. I at least have a T-Shirt that says "I would rather push a land rover than drive a jeep."
