Bmw m21?

hey guys i have been given the option to buy a cheap BMW inline 6 cylinder turbo diesel out of an 1985 E28. it has a broken timing belt. so it will need to be gone threw, and rebuilt. i am thinking about grabbing it along with the wiring harness and anything computers i need. and throwing it into the 109? i heard that these engines were pretty badass little engines. i realize figuring it out a trans would be a bit of a pain. but i am sure it can be done. but has anyone had first hand experience with these motors?

As long as you have the flexplate, torque converter and bell housing it will bolt right up to a 4hp22 ZF out of a disco or RRC.

yes, i do not really want a ZF trans though. let along an automatic. but all i need it is the flywheel, bellhousing for it and than making a adapter plate.

They were good engines, but dog-slow.There are not many around as they sold very slowly too. I sold them new back in the day. A cousin of mine bought one and drove it every day for about 15 years. Go for it.

They were also used in a small motorhome called the "Vixen."

Made by VW, based on the 4cyl and uses many of the same parts - it's a fantastic engine with a lot of tuning potential.

Volvo also used it in the 740 Turbo Diesel of similar era.

I love the engine, simple to work on, no computer needed at all and parts are not *too* hard to source.
