Blasphemy! Read no further! Jeep content!

Well, here is a kettle of fish. Sarah wants me to build her a Brute. Yeah, I know. I ask myself the same question, but it is what she wants and there's no discussion.
What I'm wondering is whether I could get a Tdi/R380/LT230 in the TJ shell?
Failing that is there an alternative diesel that would work, and don't say 4BT. I wouldn't have one of those for love or money. I would think that Mercedes, or VW or any other euro diesel would be OK, yes?
At any rate, I'm in the very earliest contemplation of this deal. Any helpful suggestions greatly appreciated.

My wife saw a Sportsmobile while we were in Yosemite and said that's cool. I have Land Rover mags all over the house and the shop, have shown her pictures of vampire 101's, Carawagons, S3 ambulances Dormobiles and on and on and she notices a Sportsmobile. Oy!

There is a guy on Land Rover Exchange that sells a kit to put a Mercedes diesel engine in Land Rovers. It's a pretty decent engine and there are a lot of sources of parts.

Just get the divorce, it will be easier in the long run... :-) She will start with a Brute, and you will be driving a Compass by the end of the year.

I suffer from Sportmobile lust since seeing one in Moab in the mid 90's I like the Brute too so I can't help this thread at all.

I knew someone would say that. It's like reverse psychology.

Talk her into getting a pickup style d-90. There is a really nice one on eBay right now for a little over 20k. They are less expensive than a Brute conversion and already have a diesel.

I saw a Brute conversion the other day at a Jeep dealership....they were asking 50k!

That conversation has been and gone. As to $50K I can believe it, especially if it has the 6.1 Hemi as well.

Wah wah. He didn't ask for an offroad super motor. The 200/300tdi is just so big and powerful. It's for his wife's Brute that she wants not for the super fantastic only agreed upon Land Rover overland mega awesome cool engine transmission combo.

Ummm, he is building a Brute. If it is not for off road, there is a serious waste of money happening.

More crying. There are many cheaper things to build or buy for off road use than a Brute. His wife wants one and he's looking for a diesel engine suggestion to put into it not what engine is "not sealed" for the most serious of off road use.

Well she did marry you Trevor! If I could I'd swap the TDI in my Jetta between it and the 90

It is not sealed for ANY off road use. I'm very familiar with these engines. It is not a good choice.
