BFG Comm.Traction tire

I'm looking for a AT type tire for a RRC and keep checking out the replacement to the BFG Trac-edges.

Odd so many Rover folk were into the Trac-edges several years ago but not for these. Did the tread
design change that much?

I've had the BFG AT's etc, just looking to try something a little different.

Anyone have any experience with these? http://cc.oulu.fi/~thu/LC/Tyres/CommTraction/

I know a couple people who have them on discos and seem happy.

The Trac-Edge was much more aggressive looking and worked really well as an all-around tire. I ran a set of 245/75R16 Trac Edges on my Range Rover. When they wore out I put on a set of BFG AT's in the same size and kept getting embarrassingly stuck.

Mark Letorney of Rovers North was running a set of BFG 235/85R16 Commercial Tractions on his 130 at the MAR in 2005. I asked him about them and he said they worked surprisingly well considering how street oriented they looked. They seemed to clean out pretty well in the 2005 Mud And Rain festival - Version One that the weekend degenerated into.

I'm running the new Cooper Discoverer STT 235/85R16 tires on my D-90 now - they are closest thing to the Trac Edges i've found. They are quiet and ride well - not sure if they'll last as long as the BFG's but so far I'm real happy with them.

Dunlop makes a tire that is real close to the old Trac Edge tread pattern - several people in our club ran them on Discoveries and got good service out of them - cheap too - about $97/tire.

Thanks for the input Ron, and Jack. The new Cooper STT's look interesting, hadn't checked those out yet.

I had the cooper STT's in a 275/65/r18 on my LR3, They were probally one of the most quiet mud tires I've ever seen plus they ride really well.

We've had weak sidewall issues off road with the STTs, otherwise nice tire.
