Skin So Soft from Avon cut with rubbing alcohol is what we used while vacationing on Parris Island.

You guys need to get back on topic.

Where you're going, you need some industrial strength stuff. I think it starts with a "C". Yeah, I remember...Carhart.

Well, I bought and sprayed our clothes with the Sawyer Permethrin Clothing Insect Repellent that I bought from Amazon, but the results weren't very impressive. I just sprayed 3 of my shirts, 2 of my shorts, and the sweatshirt and sweatpants my gf's sister was going to wear our first night outside. I sprayed them as liberally as I possibly could, but the sprayer absolutely sucked. I would set it to spray instead of stream, and had to keep messing with it. I never really got it set right, and the top would not screw in properly either, so while I was spraying one of the first shirts, the bottle fell out from underneath - half the bottle gone... Assuming it was my fault I screwed it in as tightly as I possibly could and saw that still only a couple of threads went in, and it still wanted to fall out.

Anyway, this was the worst night of bugs we had. The gf's sister asked if it was a cruel joke a friend was playing on me and if it was really bug attractant...

Doug, DoD policy is that there is no more effective treatment than clothing treated in Permethrin and DEET on exposed skin. We all were given and required to treat our uniforms during my first deployment to Iraq due to risk of malaria in Diyala Province.

I still have permethrin kits and treat all my outdoor clothing in the stuff. I gave it to my friends as well before going to Guatemala, and either all the mosquitoes died in Central America or that permethrin kicked ass because I didn't see or get bitten once after 5 days deep in the heart of darkness.

I can confirm however that Permethrin and DEET have no effect at all on repelling overland trunk monkeys. I was loaded up at Expo and I think it attracted them.
