Bernzomatic Mapp gas torch explosion

I recently bought a bernzomatic map gas torch kit. The second or third time I went to use the torch it exploded in my hand. Fortunately I was outside and was able to toss it 10ft out into the grass. I emailed Bernzomatic and got no response. The gas is coming out of what appears to be a designed hole in the casting below the hand grip. When released the troch did not extinguish as the gas was escaping before the trigger mechanism. I googled exploding bernzomatic map torch and apparently this is common ?

So much for buying an American product. Sombitches don't even respond. All I wanted was a working replacement and to advise of the failure.

I'm guessing their lawyer told them not to acknowledge the problem or your email.

Uncool. I use mine all over the house, and to occasionally light a cigar....

Doug, do you have a part or item number? I've got the trigger start micro torch. Assuming you are talking about one of the larger BernzOmatic hand torches.

Thank you for getting the word out.

And to think it is the rage for kids to play the fire challenge these days. What is wrong with people?

So who makes a GOOD replacement to it!?

Damn - I have two of them in my shop and probably 3 at work.

Outcome. So I was pissed enough that I called Bernzomatic. The guy who answered just happened to be the corp liaison to True Value Hardware which was where I bought the damn thing. Once I established that it was the torch head that blew up and not a gas canister failure as linked above, the guy got serious. I told him I had lost the skin on a couple fingers but was all healed up and was just trying to make them aware of a product failure, and get a warranty replacement. Then the heavens opened. He gave me his name and direct number and told me to take it back to true value and give them his name and direct number and have the store call him.
I walked out with a new $47 torch head and can of map. I used the hell out of it this afternoon to get a very reluctant crank bolt out of a 110 with a broken timing belt. I'll never trust the damn thing though.

Scary. Is it the one with the big tank? That's the one I have.

Seems like the torch kit is safer if you can not own an oxy/acetlyene setup

I had never seen one of those until recently, and it works great! I went to buy one at Lowes, but they didn't have the hose and nozzle.
