One day I hope to own a 110 and have done quite a bit of research on where to buy and what to look for and from that I can conclude that Berkshire will definitely NOT make the short list. You're better off picking up something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Land-...item4ab6487281

which has been endorsed here on D90 throughout the past few days. Of course, ECR is also a great place but you'd better start saving your $ now.

If I may ask, what is wrong with Berkshire Land Rover? I considered them and even spoke to them before going with Riverhouse.

Pros: Good workmanship

Cons: Very poor communication; they can never meet a deadline (most projects they do are delivered 9-12 months late); they use customer deposits on projects as working capital to run their business; they have the unfortunate propensity to lie - I can't tell you the number of "We're working on it right now" to "It's nearly finished" to complete silence to "We'll start working it next" sequence of lies I and some others have heard.

This is not just a one-off experience. Several board members have gone through this. Yes, he prices his work cheaper than Foley's, but I'd rather pay the Foley premium than deal with the Berkshire bullshit.

My 2 cents. YMMV.

ok - thanks for the advice, by the looks of the website and eagerness to sell I was under the impression they were top of the field in these builds - includign all the things that go along with a professional shop.

There are a few good reasons not to use Berkshire. And there are plenty of folks in the US that can build you anything you want just as well as Berkshire, and it need not be ECR expensive (though they are the top of line).

Look on the board; I won't name any b/c I'm sure I would miss one or two.

Speak with Doug Crowther ("130tdi" on the forum) if you want to import from the UK; he can tell you who to trust over there. http://www.dividingcreekimports.com

Good advice - especially more important considering the amount of trucks on ebay/online.

A friend of mine used to work at Berkshire LR as an apprentice. he left (and went to Toyota) in disgust at some of the bodges that they were meking their blokes do.

Total charletans. but you see them in the LR magazines (LRO especially) with their nice shiney motors... obviously trying to BS the general public.

Berkshire LR ... New reviews?

Hi guys!

I am considering to buy a LR from these guys. I have read your posts and the latest one is just over 1 year ago. Has anyone had any recent experience with them? I am in Washington DC so I will need to import to US.

Thoughts? Recent dealings with them?

Thank yoU!!

Jeb

I think last years reviews are plenty to keep most people away.

If you want to import anything into the US, you should consider using some of the board's recommended importers to help you through the process. Lots of recent changes in what can/will be approved by Customs at the port. They can steer you in the right direction and help you find a legal vehicle.

A flight to the UK and a bit of travel / car will cost you a couple of thousand ... it's well worth your time and money to take a trip and inspect something before you buy it.
