awesome garage plans/ideas

Hey Folks,

Thought I tap into the collective smarts of the d-90 board. I am at the point now of needing to build a nice garage, something that'll hold a few Rovers and have a work space so that I can fix them. preferably it'll have some type of work/office space above. So here is the deal anybody got any cool ideas or better yet pictures of sweet garages? what would be the ideal garage to you? any info is great.

Thanks in advance! -Gustaf

built this at our lake house about 8 years ago. 26' x 36' with a second floor loft area with kitchen, bath and living area. unfortunately my dad's plans and ideas so he didn't put in full 8' doors or a ceiling tall enough for a lift like I wanted. But I was able to do quite a bit of work on my disco with 3" lift on 34" tires.

Here you go,

Whatever you do, don't forget the eight foot garage doors! Check out these guys for some great ideas, and help in planning your Ultimate garage. Here is an interesting link referencing some of their work..

http://www.forbes.com/2004/04/30/cx_bs_0430home.html

Or for something really different...

P.S. -- If you are doing the ultimate garage, don't forget to do Hydronic Radiant Heat in the floor!

Hey Gustaf

I was at Expediton Imports on Long Island. Scott there is pretty much one man operation. Very nice and honest guy. His space is enough for two trucks in the bay and a nice office space in the front (not a loft) But might be worth looking at anyway to get some ideas. http://www.expeditionimports.org/page25.html
Those pictures there are when it was brand new without his lifts, dyno and other work stuff. Hope that helps.

We'll hook up again one of these days! I still owe you that CD you liked - Hooverphonic I think it was

Is it going to be a add on to your house?

I saw this a while back in a virtual home tour. 3 car garage though with a nice office space/added bedroom setup above
http://www.suffolkhometours.com/lech...k_hwy_mls.html
click on the tour. At the end it gets to the garage/office space

When I make enough scratch one day and don't have to work in the city, this would be ideal for me

"Edit- Hey Ron, any pics of how yours is comming along?"

Mine is done, well, in primer done. I still need to paint over the primer and install the battons for the board and batton look but for now it is done. Putting in electric in the spring. I will try to get a picture. It is a box with a door on it so not much to see, outside anyway. :-)

PS I also cheaped out and got the $300 home depot 7ft door as opposed to the $700 8ft door as nothing I have is taller than 7ft.

"What will you do when you come accross the once in a lifetime deal on a Unimog Doka?"

Park it outside like everything else.

BTW I did set it up so that I can install a taller door and another 14ft wide door later if I want.

What about garage heat? I need to install some kind of heat source, off the floor from the rafters that can heat up an uninsulated garage. Any suggestions?

Modine Hot Dawg

That is what I have in my 26X36 2 story shop and it is perfect. Even on the realy cold days it will heat the place in a matter of mins.

I purchased mine (HD75) from a company called QC supply, they were a great company to do business with and they had the best price around.

Dad had the right idea. He bought an old farmstead with a barn. Of course, now all the barn swallows dump bird crap on whatever he parks in there.

So he had one of those steel hangers put on the farm. Fits his cessna, piper and F-150 in there + all his tools, through the 15 foot doors. (that he got a finger trapped in, and lost the last knuckle of)
