Asheville NC this weekend

Myself and a buddy are headed to Asheville this weekend. He won a 2 hour driving class at LRE. Any suggestions for quality brew and dining? Anyone here and care to meet up with us Sat. evening?

Thanks
Dave

Hit up Barley's downtown. It's across the street form the Mast General Store (also worth visting). Great selection of beer and awesome Pizza. Also Jack of the Wood, Tupelo Honey and the Lobster Trap (believe it or not some of the best seafood I've had). All are downtown.

You need to go to 12 Bones Smokehouse. Best ribs ive ever eaten. There is also Sunny Point in West Asheville, they have great food also I have a friend that raves about a place called Salsas, its downtown Ive never been.. If you want beer and pizza, Asheville Pizza and Brewery is top notch. There are some guys over on the Discoweb in the area, you might could go wheeling with them. Man I really miss WNC.

Salsas is really good. Personally if I am in NC I go BBQ. Screw the pizza.

If I didn't have to get all this stuff finished up, I'd come up there and meet you. Hit up west Asheville, that's where all the good stuff is these days.

I love that town.... hot hippie girls. YES.

Agree with Will on the Jack of the Wood suggestion. My middle brother lives there and does a bunch of open mic nights at some of the bars. Green Man Ales has a bunch of good brews, and my brother told me last week there was a new brewery that just opened, so I'll see if I can reach him for more info.

My brother has called me a few times after being behind what I think I remember him saying was raised Conniston Green D90, so there might be a local or two who you can meet up with.

Follow-up Post:

Follow up: haha the Jack of the Wood IS the Green Man Brewing Co...so I guess I really really like that place. Also, my brother said the The Belle Chere Festival is this Saturday in town which is supposedly one of the largest free festivals in all of the South?

I'm assuming the LRE event is at the Biltmore for a driving course?

Have fun.

Thanks guys

I've been to Jack of the Wood, and a few other places though I couldn't tell you their names. Next month I'm headed to Lake Gaston where we are going to do a hog roast, so I'll have all the BBQ a jewish kid from NJ could ever want. Hope one of those corrupt NJ Rabbis are reading this. Phillip, 12 Bones does sound good, thanks for that. Barry I think you have finally overcome your ADD and cut right to the point. I'll save the pizza for NYC where it is done best. That and bagels. When i was in Ottawa I got a "Montreal Style" bagel. I guess they like em small there. Dunno.

Scott, Sean has been to Uwharrie twice now with his LR3, and even ran some of the C rated trails in the rain no less. There is no substitute for lack of experience when it comes to taking that sort of plunge. See Doug C's sig line for more on that.
But we would like to do CF sometime.

MadCow, sure you can't break away? We could use your hooker-finding skills. Hot hippie girls indeed...

Heard about the festival but haven't looked into it . All I know is I can almost taste the Sweetwater 420 already...

I'm partial to the oatmeal and mocha porters, but good stuff none the less.

long day of driving. we got in @ 1am after a 2 hour detour to raleigh to grab some beer and grub at flying saucer where the waitresses all wear knee high socks, micro minis and tramp stamps. good times. we were able to check in and make last call x2 at a festival beer tent in town.

btw we have room for two people on the gift certificate if anyone can make it here by 10am...it sounds like they are not booked so we might pay to extend the session. though that would eat up valuable beer drinking/festival/hippie chick spotting time

Yeah and I was behind him on the trail stoping and picking up the LR3 plastic trim as the bolders peeled it off.
Y'all have fun

Salsas is an excellent choice if your looking for a more healthy and somewhat exotic meal. The wild boar was excellent. Can't wait to get back down there.
