I'm quite sure some of Himalayas creations are priced similarly.

It's about supply and demand. If there is a demand then there will be a supply.

True enough. It's a shame that Rovers are up there with Ferraris.

I guess I should say, Are people who buy these crazy?

It's expensive but at least it's black and isn't fitted with 22" rims! Haha. I kind of like it - I can't afford it but I kind of like it and it appears to have kept the same purpose-built characteristics as when it was a D90.

I am building a 3dr softtop myself so like to see if they get even near that number

My guess is that was built for the upper ACK - crowd. It is a great configuration where someone can carry a bunch of people around the island.

But I do think they are crazy for using a 97 NAS 90. Why not get a clapped out UK rig and use an LS power plant? The dash parts would be the expensive part but on a $140k rig probably doesn't matter much.

If you don't ask....you can't get... The thing about an asking price is that you can always come down, and price is relative...if someone has millions that price is like $10,000 to us.. What about ferraris that sell for like 2.5 millions dollars, you can't even drive those things, but people do.. And besides, eBay is more of a nation...nay...worldwide marketing tool that a selling tool..

I've been working on my 110 for a year now and have well over $100K into it. You take a old defender and put new everything in it it's gonna be $145K easy. Labor and parts are super expensive in the U.S. Unless you can do the work yourself it's expensive. If you can do the work yourself, what's your time worth? It's not free.

I guarantee this truck has 1000 man hours into it.

So the question really becomes... "are Defenders worth it"? When mine is done I will have something nobody else has. That's worth a lot to me. However, I do wish Defenders were better built to begin with. They are not tanks.

Not sure how it's surprising. You're talking about a 97 D90 that there weren't a lot of, then converting that with a galvy chassis and most new parts into a perfect D110. Then after completing the truck, you sell it at a very high end dealership that caters to a very specific market, who also need to make some money off of it. The price seems just about right.

How does a 1997 110 even happen here in the US?

What I said earlier, you take a NAS90 and stretch it.

Take a 1997 d-90.. Slap a new 110 frame underneath it and longer body panels etc...I would hazard a guess and say that the vin decodes as a d-90..

Personally I wouldn't put any real money into a ROW, or a salvaged NAS. Low end builds okay but I honestly think for resale a clean no questions truck is the safest way to go.

From what I recall they'd tried that before and they just didn't move off the lot.

Asking price is one thing, "worth" is what someone actually pays for it. I've seen that truck at that price for a longggggg time.

Same guys also have the $107k D90...

sooner or later someone will come along and fall prey to the "if it's expensive, it must be good" fallacy.

When you drop a ROW chassis on it, it no longer has an original NAS frame vin. Why do people take that risk? Is it legally safe given the current invironment? it's in effect no different than buying a ROW truck, and swapping in a NAS D90 bulkhead and left B pillar with the DOT sticker on it.

I'm not speaking from any authority, but rather asking what I'm missing in my understanding of the legal aspect of what's going on here. I've seen multiple repeated opinions that I should galvinize my NAS 110 original chassis, and it seems that down the road, swapping in a RN NAS galvinized chassis would lose the vin, which we leave me with only a vulnerable riveted vin plate on the dash and a sticker on the B pillar as the only evidence of it's true white market nature.

This is at least the third one they have had in this configuration and they have all sold. As for 107k 90 it will sell. They sold the 50 mile one for more than that. As people have said, if you have the money this is the no brainer place to get a solid collectable vehicle with no stories.
